Ned doesn't know anything, and it isn't pity, though maybe that should be all that it is, given the way they had met, but its more like sympathy, commiseration. Because Ned is alone with nothing to his name, and Stede can relate. Ned isn't starving per se, but he's thinner than he should be, worn clothing that doesn't fit his frame, hair unkempt and long enough to fall in his eyes, and he's so clearly lost here its almost painful to see. Its not like Stede is doing much better, but… Well. He's still doing better. Ned tells him he was found on the shore here, that no one knew him or could tell him much, that he couldn't remember anything. No attachments, no connections, just sitting stuck and waiting for something to happen. Treading water, Stede thinks, and swallows past the sudden lump in his throat.

"I've just been wandering." He begins, "I don't have much, but…" Ned lifts his head, peers at him with dark eyes, and he's seen those eyes before — across his ship's deck and through restless dreams after — but never like this; sad and tired and kind of pitiful. "But you can come with me, if you want." He doesn't quite know why he offers to Ned Low of all people, but he doesn't regret it when Ned looks at him like a drowning man finding rescue. Maybe he'll regret it later, maybe this is a bad idea, but Stede holds out a hand and Ned takes it without hesitation, and his touch is sparks against Stede's skin. Stede leads Ned up and away from the empty docks, out of the unfamiliar port, and they vanish together into the night.
