Unfortunately, the historical record seems consistent in that the oligarchy rarely gives up power without great hardship, such as economic depression, civil strife, revolution, or war. And now with global warming, we have a polycrisis. Still, there is hope: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/0...

Useful with an understanding of ultimately addressing the fundamental cause. Problematic if symptoms are tackled piecemeal as standalone issues, bogging us down in the weeds and slowing progress to the necessary goal of more equal distribution of wealth & power.
βThe central question is whether Russiaβs prospects for the military success Putin needs to justify this war have dimmed. The evidence suggests they have. The strategic costs for Russia is heading in a direction that Putin may not be able to reverse.β mickryan.substack.com/p/the-scales...
1/ "This is the pivot point in the energy transition folks. Fossil chaos drives people to electrotech, as this is the first oil shock with a superior alternative. " says @ember-energy.org @kingsmillbond.bsky.social

While the disruption to agriculture's #fossilfuel foundation from the Israeli-American war on #Iran will be felt most immediately in the global south, watch how the inflationary consequences will extend it globally.
"How many more times do we need to learn the lesson that depending on imported fossil fuel energy from geopolitically unstable regions, subject to America's erratic politics and strategy, is a bad idea."

When a former top CIA officer from Moscow says Putin knows how to work men like Trump, people should pay attention. This is classic Russian tradecraft, reading ego, exploiting weakness, and turning perception into leverage. #CIA #Russia #NationalSecurity #geopolitics

Yes, gov't is captured by the oligarchs, so why would they support a public option for groceries? The solution I put forth comes from the success of New Deal. It means plain folks stop voting for either side of the neoliberal coin (LPC & CPC), give the NDP or a new populist party a majority.
Today is the anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. "The Tokyo Sixteen" highlights the sixteen pilots who took part in the Doolittle Raid and their paticipate in World War II's most notable air raid.

Is laggard #Canada going to be locked into a #fossilfuel future & strategic disadvantage simply to continue funnelling petro profits to US corps, when the global south is rapidly electrifying?

Considering the rapid Chinese-led transition of the global south to electric energy, our continued entrenchment in #fossilfuel energy chains #Canada to the US petro interests where most of the profits flow to. This is a major strategic liability.
- podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/0...
#cdnpoli
Referring to any #fossilfuels as being "clean" or "cleaner" is a sham. None are. They all pollute. Canada's record on reducing carbon emissions is shameful, more so when most profits flow to US petro corps and everyday folks pay the price of extreme weather.

Book cover of 2019 Tuttle Publishing edition of "Bushido: The Soul of Japan" by Nitobe Inazo. The white book cover shows an illustration of a samurai in armor on the backdrop of a red circle, symbolic of Japan's flag.
Book cover of 1987 Pantheon edition of "War Without Mercy: Race and Power in the Pacific War" by John W. Dower. Brown book cover with black text, red highlights, and a photo of US Marines fighting on Okinawa in a rugged, denuded landscape with an explosion in the background.

Long overdue to read "Bushido: The Soul of Japan" by #Nitobe Inazo to understand the cultural dimension of the #Japanese way of war in #WWII. Expect it to be a good companion to Dower's "War Without Mercy". Probably would have been better to read in reverse order.

With Proportional Representation, perhaps there would be little need for floor crossing.
Two "birds" with one tax cut for the #neoliberal win.

Don't look up.
Yes, because of the trillion$ invested by governments, Bay Street, large pension funds, etc. in fossil fuels, no leader wants to push the first domino that will unleash a tsunami through the economy. "Too big to fail" means we're $crewed.
If we had Proportional Representation, this would not even be an issue. Fix the system, not the symptom.
