de Toth’s House Of Wax is such a fun watch that you just have to admire how Collet-Serra’s ‘05 remake not only re-applied this films concept into more of a ‘00s teen slasher, but did it so effectively.
Vincent Price is excellent in this and the atmosphere is so fitting for spooky season.

Holy shit, gang. This isn't the first time Scott & I have had the number one movie, but it is the first time we've done it with OUR movie and not the Marvel machine. BP1 never got higher than 4th place. This is huge for us & we owe every last bit of it to you. THANK YOU!

(let’s pretend it’s Friday)
Black Phone 2 is out in theaters, and yes! That really is Ethan Hawke beneath the mask and prosthetics.
“Oh, he was there the whole time. He wouldn’t let somebody else do that for him. The only thing he didn’t do was some of his stunts.” - Scott Derrickson
Submitted my first short today. Both excited and nervous.
I just submitted "GRAY MONDAY" to Boston Short Film Festival via FilmFreeway.com!
caught both ROOFMAN and KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN today.
two great films that will end up in my best of 2025 list.
Both are also two different kinds of emotional and I love that.
Support these films!
guess we’re back on BlueSky? 👀
been working through a re-write over the last few weeks. spec is turning out really well but I took some time to write about Michael Chaves' The Conjuring: Last Rites, his directing style for this film and how it sticks the landing as a grand finale.

When Republicans talk about the “radical left”, they’re referring to anyone who wants the US to have the same social safety net that every other wealthy democracy has. Universal healthcare, living wage, affordable college etc may be the norm in Australia, the UK, Canada, but in the US it’s “radical”
My thoughts on Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's I Know What You Did Last Summer, its ties to the original film and how the re-quel's story dives into shared trauma between two generations.
Had such a good time with this film.

created a short film/visual project over the last 24-hours. kind of an experiment that came out way better than I'd hoped.

So I've got SINNERS & THE BRUTALIST as my two favorite films of the year but I feel like if I rewatched some other releases that could change depending on the day.
FREAKY TALES, MICKEY 17, THUNDERBOLTS*, DANGEROUS ANIMALS & BRING HER BACK were all excellent and MATERIALISTS might be in there too.
Another random SINNERS appreciation post. Listening to the soundtrack this afternoon and getting excited to see it again.
Quick thread of some pieces I wrote over the last month: ⬇️
new post(s)!
I talk A24's DEATH OF A UNICORN, it's message and how it achieves its approach to class satire.

everything from its premise, it’s brutality, the message of the film, Skarsgard and Hopkins are great in this, a HEALTH TRACK IN THE END CREDITS?
LOCKED was a damn good thriller, can’t wait to catch this again.
also on my substack!
The more I sit with the film the more love what Mark Anthony Green did with this.
Can’t wait to see what he does next!
(Also him being a formal journalist adds so much more to this film’s message)

I wrote about my kind, funny childhood friend Michelle Trachtenberg, and the group of friends that saved my life when I was a kid.

Yeah I personally think there are SOME pacing things happening in the back half but I mostly enjoyed it!
It’s one that I think will get better on rewatches too, happy I got to see it.
Caught Mark Anthony Green’s OPUS!
An unsettling tale that doesn’t shy away from some gore and disturbing imagery and it’s a fun time in bits. Rodgers & The-Dream’s soundtrack was cool.
Need more Ayo in horror projects!
