More than worrisome indeed, that’s putting it extremely mildly. It’s absolute insanity from the verbally incontinent misinformer in chief. 💁🏻‍♀️

A double empathy problem affects our ability to relate to this curiosity and this understandably leaves parents very frustrated. Important to find out how they currently communicate and work from there. Meet them in the middle. Early intervention won’t help if it’s not the right intervention.

Yes, agreed, that’s a really frustrating downward trend since the Covid era.

Ireland is not better prepared because our existing staff are working beyond their capacity to cope with the demands to the point of illness and burnout. We don’t have the infrastructure and we don’t have the staffing. It’s a lose-lose situation. The recruitment embargo also needs to end now.

Square graphic with a black-and-white background photo of a crowd watching a 1962 nuclear bomb test in Nevada.

A semi-transparent red rectangle is superimposed on the photo. It contains text reading, "Too many autistic people learn—often quite early in life—that they have no choice other than to submit to discomforts, and also people in their lives may not even register or believe that their distress is real.

"This means autistic people may seem excited about things that are less uncomfortable/painful to them, which is not the same as enjoying or even neutrally tolerating those things."

Because holidays, we're resharing our list of often non-obvious things that can cause distress for an autistic person. We hope that by highlighting such stuff you can help the autistic people in your life (or yourself) thrive during this challenging time.

This piece was needed. We are all just trying our best and our best looks different everyday. I’ll admit I cried in work this week because I felt I wasn’t doing enough. Reaching that point was a catharsis where I realised in fact I’m showing up, trying my best and my best is most definitely enough.

We want to make it nice.
We want others to enjoy it too.
We hope it’s fun for everyone.
It would be nice to get a card or present.
Imagine if we got to eat together.
But these are traps.
That make us feel stuck and sad.
Because our reality is different.
And right now, this is where we need to be.
