News and Views @natclimate.nature.com from @anthonypress.bsky.social: "The use of climate modelling by Lucas et al. to predict the future presence and extent of Antarctic ice-free areas is novel, and indeed very useful." But what does it mean for mineral exploitation?

RIP Sir Guy Green. Sir Guy (he preferred just Guy) was a passionate champion of Antarctica and of the Antarctic Treaty System. As Governor of Tasmania he developed and promoted the Governor’s Forum on Antarctica. I will miss him as a wonderful colleague.

/2. 2048 is when the Environmental Protocol can be reviewed at the request of a Consultative Party; not the Antarctic Treaty. The date from which there could be a call for review of the Antarctic Treaty has long passed.
Antarctic Reporting: While there is some good coverage of #Antarctic issues in this report, there are two errors: 1. The Antarctic Treaty does “strike down” Antarctic territorial claims (read its Article 4 for clarity). —>
