#Writing two short #stories using the same large set of characters with complex backstories...
Doing research today on them and uh...I've for *sure* bitten off more than I can chew, here. ππ¬

In conclusion, if the publishing industry could just get over their weird fear of the word βcomicsβ that would really help my brain out a lot, thank you π
I hate Al and I refuse to use it Peter, if you don't use Al a bunch of super rich men will lose a lot of money I already said I hated Al Harry, you don't need to sell it to me
Anyone with young Donut Squad fans in Oxford, get along and check out the window of the Bodleian shop at the Weston Library. I made a cool thing! If I do say so myself.
Really bummed about Bon Bon's eggs being duds.
BUT--since we cooped Truffle, our new bantam Cochin roo, with the girls who laid #6 & 7, at least those bantam eggs will have a bantam Cochin daddy!
So my two surprises MAY just pan out! ππ£
Next is the May 2nd hatch!
Banty eggs WILL pip 1-2 days early!
Candling tonight: #1, 2, 4 & 5 (all Bon Bon's) were duds.
#8 is so dark-shelled, I'm unsure (it stays in).
TOTAL EMBRYOS: 9 eggs! (if #8 hatches it'll be ten)
#6, 7 (both Bantams), 9, 10, 11 (Enzyme's), 12, 13, 14 & 16.
Nine (or ten) embryos out of 14 eggs is really good for high altitude hatching!π
#5-7 bantam eggs will have Brick, Luna, Bobo, or Basil for moms.
The other eggs are mystery moms, although blue and green eggs are from our Easter Egger/Americaunas mix hens.
The brown eggs (#14, 15, 16) are a true mystery!
UNFORTUNATELY, clumsy me broke 2 eggs: #3 & 15, π€¬leaving a total of 14 eggs.
Candling for the #Chickam eggs is done! π
I'd set 16 eggs in the incubator.
7 bantam eggs all fathered by Truffle, a new bantam Cochin roo (#1-4 are from Bon Bon, a new banty Cochin hen).
And 9 full-size eggs fathered by Mjolnir or Yeti (#8 dark brown from Nyx, #11 light blue from Enzyme).
Both Dart and Moose are broody, and may be recruited as #Chickam moms!
Moose (Salmon Faverolle) is only 1 year old so may not be the best choice.
Dart is older, has a slender build & isn't floofy at all--but FIERCE, & gets excited when the kid shows her the eggs in the incubator.
In two days I'm candling the #Chickam eggs to see how many embryos we have! πππ£
Have to say, I'm NOT impressed with this #Vevor incubator.
Can't adjust it by 1/2 degrees, the fan cycles on/off (screws up humidity), & that thrice-accused exposed fan are SERIOUS downsides. Have to go 1 degree too hot.
Yeah, yeah, yada yada...have a nice stormin' the castle, I'll just be #reading. ππ
Very nice!
And love seeing the creative process. π
Five cut-out-and-keep bookplates Each reads βex-librisβ then has a space for the owners name. The design reflects the genre: Sci-fi: Nanotechnology tracks the book, monitors its condition and summons a retrieval drone if necessary. Horror: An ancient curse creates feelings of unease, rising to apalling, abject horror unless the book is returned. Romance : Acts as an invite to the county's grandest ball, but revoked if not returned in a polite and timely manner. Crime: Tailed by a dishevelled Gumshoe who Seems cynical, but loves books more than dames and bourbon. Fantasy: A fellowship of heroes lead the borrower on an epic quest to return the tome to its Rightful shelf.
My books cartoon for this weekβs @theguardian.com
A publisher's office. A writer and editor meet. "I wasn't entirely convinced by the portrayal of thugs, hoodlums and henchmen in your novel, Quentin." Says the editor holding the manuscript, "So I've brought in an insensitivity reader." The writer looks nervously at an enormous, muscular, tattoed, stubbly, shaven-headed, man who holds the manuscript, a tiny pen, and grins with (perhaps unintentional) menace.

An image of a stick figure on the road to Paris carrying a huge uni-ball eye micro pen. He is followed by a black cat. This Saturday, 18th April 2-4pm I will be signing and doodling in my books at Librairie l'Atelier 2 bis rue du jourdain, Paris, 75020
I'll be in Paris on Saturday!
Come along and get a book signed!

Yeah, it was pretty much inevitable. π
The Minden, NV library is hosting a #author's gathering this October!
They're also putting together a literary journal, submissions from northern #NV #fiction and #nonfiction #writers are welcome.
And our writing group, The Unreliable Narrators, loves new faces!
Help spreading the word appreciated!π
Most recent library haul!
Two by @tkingfisher.com, one by @gabino.bsky.social, and the last by Blake Crouch. All books I've been wanting to read for a while, I got lucky and they were in the stacks!
Started with 'The Twisted Ones' & can't put it down.
ππ
And what a great cover! π
I've seen all of those (and really liked them, especially the last two!) except Paprika & Summer Wars, so now I'm making a note to see them. π
'God of Cookery' and 'Journey To The West: Conquering The Demons' are two more Stephen Chow movies that I LOVE.
Hardbacks expensive?
Paperbacks going out of style?
Thrift shops now asking for payment in diamonds?

Incubation for the 18th year of #Chickam has begun! π
There are 15 eggs (I dropped #15 & elected not to replace it).
I'll candle in 10 days to count embryos & remove any duds.
Hatch is May 2nd--but banty eggs hatch 1-2 days befoire that!
Watch the hatch here: www.youtube.com/@jackshenhouse

These sixteen eggs will go into our #Vevor incubator tomorrow morning!
There are: 7 bantam eggs all fathered by Truffle, a new bantam Cochin roo (#1-4 are from Bon Bon, a new banty Cochin hen).
And 9 full-size eggs fathered by Mjolnir or Yeti (#8 dark brown from Nyx, #11 light blue from Enzyme).
The hardest part of #Chickam is choosing the eggs, because of limited room in the incubator. π«€
Out of EIGHT DOZEN candidates...
Straight up, if I like a project enough?
I do that shit pro-bono, and I'll shill the fuck out of it.
I know what it's like to be creative and broke. But at no point would I ever use it as an excuse to use a device built on theft, instead of just *fucking asking for help.*
π€¬ Muted AND blocked.

It's the most wonderful time of the year, #Chickam!
Eggs go into our #Vevor incubator Sat. the 11th, hatch date Sat. May 2nd (any banty eggs will hatch a day or two early!).
Test running it now, please admire the baby chick disco, with cool blue light & embarassingly *gigantic* green water weasel.ππ
