EGG GATHERING FOR #CHICKAM HAS BEGUN.
For the next week we'll be setting egg aside, to go into the Incubator this coming Saturday the 11th, for our planned hatch on May 2nd!
Youngest banty hens are cooped with Truffle, our new banty Cochin roo...can't wait to see his little round fluffball chicks!

Okay, so with our VERY mild winter and now HOT spring, we're gonna scoot our #Chickam hatch date up a bit.
The chickens are ALL twitterpated. 😁🐓
I'll set eggs in the incubator April 11th, aiming for a hatch date of May 2nd!

Our weather is holding, tho well below freezing at night.

Tentatively planning on running #Chickam on the flock this weekend, weather permitting...
Still getting nighttime temps that are below freezing. Daylight hours warm enough to NOT kill my laptop are still short, so the hours we'd run it would be something like 10 or 11AM to about 4PM, PST.

Moose (2025 chick, Salmon Faverolle) has gone broody and is a TERROR. We've had a talk with her that she's a few months early with that BS.
Meanwhile, please admire her magnificent beard and noggin air brakes. 😁🐓

Wormed the flock yesterday.
Even after *immediately* giving out post-icky-stuff goodies, the kid & I are BIG TIME persona non grata (Enzyme won the Butt Head award for exteme non-cooperation).
Luckily, I got a pumpkin the other day to set out for them.
I may run #Chickam on it, weather permitting...

Very sad times here today.
We lost Blazikin, the little disabled hen we hatched in 2024.
Because of her disablity we knew Blaziken was in for a short life span anyway...
But this one hurts. She was everyone's favorite. 💔

I was thinking about running #Chickam on the flock this weekend...but it's still too hot to have the laptop outside and I don't want to fry it.
Instead, over the next day or so the kid and I will get some pictures of the flock and post them.

The youngest #Chickam chicks went out into the flock for good today, everything's going fine so far.
Their 2 month old pics were taken and will be up on my blog shortly!

In a few hours ALL the #Chickam chicks go out to the small run to get used to being outside. While they're out the cam will be off, back on when they come back in--which if it does the 100 degree thing again, might be 1-2PM. Otherwise they'll spend the day outside & come back in around 6PM.

#CHICKAM UPDATE!
The end is near...
Starting 7/18, the 8 young chicks go out into the small run days (coming back in if it gets too hot). The cam will be off while they're outside, back on when they come in for the afternoon/night.
Chickam ends around 7/31 when they go out into the flock for good.❤️

Pictures taken of the older chicks, they'll be up on my blog later. The older chicks (except Huntress and Enzyme, who will get another 2 weeks in the small run) go out into the flock for good tonight, after a wing trim. #Chickam

The older chicks go out into the flock in a week and need to get used to dark nights--this will be their first night in full darkness, so there may be some distressed yelling. They're OK :)
And it's plenty warm enough at night, the littles no longer need a heat lamp.

The chicks are old enough and feathered enough that we can start doing without some of the lights for heat now, especially during daylight hours. #Chickam
