Only cut my 'lawn' once last year - with my quiet, eco-friendly manual mower - and no plans to do it again anytime soon!

The metal cat is part of my efforts to keep the local felines away from my tiny nature reserve. Luckily the birds are clever enough to know it's not real.

Agree. You don't need to do anyting - let nature decide!

Delighted by the number of ladybirds I've seen in my garden so far this year - just hope it doesn't mean there's also going to be a record number of aphids on my veggies!

Watch as Preston Egg Rolling basks in sunshine at Avenham Park – Blog Preston
It’s been a long time coming but the Easter tradition of egg rolling finally saw some sunny and warm weather

A rare occurrence at the annual egg rolling - the sun turned up!

Huge crowds and glorious scenes as we were there for the first egg roll of the day down the slopes of Avenham Park. 🥚

Sowed a lot of seeds this morning: tomatoes, lettuce, cornflowers, cosmos, marigolds, sunflowers ... then I came indoors and read this 🔽

A clump of red, pink and yellow tulips growing in a garden flowerbed.

A clump of red, pink and yellow tulips growing in a garden flowerbed.

Last autumn I planted some new tulip bulbs in the garden. I chose 2 packs labelled 'Pink' and 'Purple' thinking that would be an attractive colour combination, but ...

Not complaining, all colours welcome, and I'm thankful they all survived last night's storm!

Good question 🤔

Pleased you explain in the AltText.

I thought you'd made some kind of baking mistake so you'd put the inedible buns outside in the hope that the birds would dispose of them.

Enjoy!

A couple of days ago I rescued a double daffodil bud that had been broken off by strong winds in the garden. Wasn't sure if it had developed enough to open, but ...!

At least it looks like spring indoors now, although that wind still feels like winter outside.

Good luck with it - although you're clearly talented enough not to need it!

This is cool – the new advert for the National Year of Reading 2026 (for which I'm an ambassador) has just landed! The message is: whatever you're into, get MORE into it by READING about it. So for me it's football – programmes on matchday, transfer rumours, Panini stickers – I can't get enough!

My garden is littered with twigs discarded from next-door's birch trees. Wood pigeons are the main culprits. They break off a twig, think about it, then toss it aside when they see what might be a better one 🙄

Today's #LunchtimeRead and listen.

The quiet interlude I needed in a so far frustrating day.

Transcript - with spelling mistakes but still understandable - visible if you click on 'more' in caption below the video.

There's an art to making a traditional drystone wall so here's my contribution to today's #BlueSkyArtShow on the theme of #stone.

Not sure if I took this photo on the #Lancashire or #Yorkshire side of the #Pennines but it's definitely 'oop North!

Lovely sunny day, so yes, there's one of the neighbours spraying #weedkiller all over his completely paved front garden😠.

I wonder if fewer people would use it if the manufacturers had to re-label it Wildflower Killer or Nature Destroyer 🤔

Probably not.
