We broke the mold of a regular reading and had our poems interact in conversation. What a great way to read poems for our reading series with Aerik Francis, Adams County Poet Laureate, and Matt, the owner of West Side Books in Denver.

Last night @ Denver Indian Center for the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS), I met Denise Lajimodiere, the Poet Laureate of North Dakota. I read "there is light there" from my book "is(ness)". I read the poem in honor of Indigenous elders who survived this era.

Confirmed. Off to the land of blue, John Waters, in March 2026 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday). I’ll be in Baltimore for AWP. This is going to be a quick trip. AWP must be popular this year. I think this trip is going to feel more like a 1-night stand. Hopefully, I will connect with some of you there.

The secret is out now.
I am excited to be named Colorado's 11th Poet Laureate for 2026 - 2027 by Governor Jared Polis @govofco. I join the ranks of the great poets who preceded me. To be honest, this news came as a total surprise—I never dreamed I’d be in this position.

Thursday evening I received stupendous. I would have never thought I would be taking on this task for what I am about to do! I am terrified but mostly excited. There are a few who already know, but that is all I can say for now because... "it's a surprise. Do you like surprises?"

Isis ... ICE both government sanctioned entities ordered (normalized) to murder (assassinate) its citizens without impunity. American citizens stand by and do nothing but post on social media. Maybe, modern American citizens will know what Indigenous people's went through. Something to think about.
