A stretched canvas with an acrylic painting inspired by the Camper Van Beethoven song THE DAY THAT LASSIE WENT TO THE MOON. In the upper right, a hot air balloon whose sole passenger is a golden-haired dog. She's approaching the Moon, which dominates the lower left of the canvas. Coming to meet her are HOT ROD and MOONDOG, two characters of my own design who originated as Halloween costumes, but have gone on to appear in multiple paintings. Hot Rod leaves a trail of rainbows, while Moondog leaves a trail of magical green smoke.

With apologies to Camper Van Beethoven, this is my acrylic-on canvas cover version of THE DAY THAT LASSIE WENT TO THE MOON.

In my #painting, Lassie arrives to discover that Hot Rod and Moondog are already there, and after some initial concern and curiosity they become fast friends.

Initial composition, introducing the character SAMURAI CRYBABY. He's a fat diaper baby with two katanas he cannot possibly use. He had a crying eye tattooed on his chest. Samurai Crybaby has a round cartoon bomb with a lit fuse instead of a head, with a crudely drawn grimacing mouth.

This is my layout for SAMURAI CRYBABY REPRESENTS NOTHING, which will be a 16x20 inch #acrylic #painting on #canvas.

But remember, he represents nothing. There is no person, idea, or political affiliation in contemporary American culture that could be represented by Samurai Crybaby.
