her name is kazue. she’s the second protagonist to the tachibana gaiden fanfic i’m working on! she’s a very in-demand hostess, but anyone who can see past her facade can see she’s trouble, tho…

Miyata looks at Kazue, shocked and with a sparkle in his eye, pleasantly surprised that they’re on the same page. His expression quickly shifts to a determined smile. “Yeah!” Kazue and Miyata bump fists. “Let’s make it cool!” And so, after weeks of practicing… Kazue and Miyata look at each other, bent over and panting. It should be noted that Kazue has changed from her slip dress to a velvet dress.

Miyata picks Kazue up and spins her, the skirt fluttering as they celebrate. “We did it!” Ishida claps, “Congrats”. “One question though,” Ishida says as Kazue and Miyata continue to celebrate. “If it’s a *secret* handshake, doesn’t that mean that *no one* should see it?” The revelation interrupts Kazue and Miyata’s celebration. The past few weeks…all of their work to convince the gang that they’re together…and they have nothing to show for it.

Kazue smacks her hand on the counter with the paneling making it appear that she smacked Ishida’s head instead. Angry, Kazue says, “Why didn’t you say anything earlier?” Ishida, mostly unbothered, nudges away the speech bubble and says, “Ugh. As if you guys would’ve listened to me if I *did*. Get off the counter!” Behind them, Miyata despairs, saying, “I can’t believe we didn’t realize it sooner!” Their newfound bond was convincing enough.

Kazue and Miyata are standing in the backroom of CAL Videos. Miyata is in deep thought and says, “There’s only *one thing* we can do if we really wanna convince the gang that we’re dating…” Kazue has a serious look on her face. “Just *one*?” She asks. “You don’t mean…” Miyata turns around to face her. “Yeah.” In sync, Kazue and Miyata point at each other while saying, “We have to create…a secret handshake.”

“A secret handshake. The ultimate form of snychrony, patience, and creativity.” Reads over a detailed illustration of a pair of hands clasped in each other. “Therefore! No one will doubt that we’re a couple!” Reads over Kazue and Miyata in a fantasy scenario as they hold each other’s faces by the hand as sparkles and flowers surround them.

“Good idea, Miya!” Kazue says. “Thanks,” Miyata nods proudly. “I do my best!” “There’s only one problem, though…” Kazue is thinking hard with a hand on her chin. Offscreen, Miyata says, “Wait, there is?!” “I’m left handed,” Kazue says as she holds her hand up. “And you’re right handed!” Miyata is shocked. “Whoa, you’re right!” “So one of us has to use their non-dominant hand,” Miyata says as he looks as his right hand. “It won’t be an easy job,” Kazue agrees as she looks at her left hand.” “Obviously, the one who should do it would be…”

Kazue and Miyata proudly volunteer themselves for the task. “Me, of course!” They say. Miyata has experience in using his left hand for baseball and Kazue learned how to use her right hand for bar tricks. They’re both shocked that they both arrived at the same conclusion. They’re stand small on a black background that has, “Wait a second.” Behind them in large letters. Kazue chuckles. Worried that she’s making fun of him, Miyata says, “What’s so funny?” “Oh, nothing!” Kazue smiles and points at Miyata. “We better get started, then!”

“Tachibana-han…I thought you and I were on the same page.” Kazue shook her head in disappointment. “Give me one reason I should still work with you.” Tachibana scoffed. “Same page? I’ve been on a tight leash since I asked for your help.” “Right…since you asked for my help,” Kazue repeated, as if to ensure that Tachibana understood what he just said.

The realization hit Tachibana like a bullet to glass, shattering the illusion he had that he had any sort of control over the situation. Kazue had mentioned seeing Xiao Qiao’s face on one of Nishitani’s documents, but she never mentioned when she had seen it. She may have only been Nishitani’s ‘girlfriend’, but her influence was apparent. “You…how long have you planned this?” Kazue could have easily gotten Oishi and his men to cause a scuffle dire enough to get Miyata to voice his concerns to him. The Grand was the Omi Alliance’s playground, so no matter what, Tachibana would’ve ended up going there to investigate. She got Tachibana to her, but it certainly couldn’t have been for the sole purpose of getting close to Itsuki.

“Oh, Tachibana-han…I think you’re starting to reach a little bit!” Tachibana stepped forward. “I want that business card back.”

“Oh yeah?” Kazue raised her brow. “What are you gonna do with it? Are you just gonna waltz in there? It’s a pretty fancy restaurant, y’know. They’re booked up for months. Getting a reservation now would require some strings being pulled.” “I don’t care, hand it over—” Tachibana gasped when Kazue suddenly grabbed his arm.

Tachibana glared at Kazue. She was being a little too insistent on Tachibana steeling away with Itsuki. When they were walking from La Marche to the casino, she walked with her arm in his—to make a good entrance, she said. Now, she was walking fast as if Tachibana’s usefulness to her dried up. “You can drop the act, Kazue-san,” Tachibana said. Kazue laughed. “What?” “You wanted me to sneak off with Itsuki-san so you can look into the business card yourself, didn’t you?” Tachibana asked. “I was wondering why you were so quick to help me…it was to get that business card from Itsuki-san, wasn’t it? The man you sat with last night, you must have thought he was Tojo Clan, too, but he didn’t have anything significant on him. Somehow, Itsuki-san acquired it, so you had me distract him in your place.”

“Hm…so what if I did?” Kazue asked. “Is there even a mole Nishitani-san is investigating, or is he on this too?” Tachibana asked. “You did call him at the casino, so I can’t imagine he isn’t.” Kazue stared at Tachibana for what felt like ages. Then, she started to laugh, as if she just understood the joke he made.
