A mostly empty parking lot, with a large white building in the background. A bike is parked in one of the parking spaces.
A mostly empty parking lot.
The view was lovely. But the lots were MUCH emptier than your photos.

This has been a consistent feature in portrayals of Scritchy, and I love it every time.
It can’t possibly make financial sense to have all that parking right?! Why can’t they see it!? #CarBrain
PS: How much money do we think NSCC could make by selling off a couple of those part-time car storage surfaces to developers?! It’s gotta be more than what they make in parking fees, right? Or maybe just build some student housing there?!
A Bosch e-bike display screen: 0 km/hr, 14000km, two bars of battery, and a headlamp icon.
I hit 14000 kilometres tonight, riding around the vast and empty parking lots of my local community college.
Ah, that’s so disappointing!
Excellent! I love having bike data at my fingertips in this way.
Thanks! This definitely helps with the route planning.
Anyone know if the counter locations are already on a google map somewhere so I can make my own route?!
We are planning to hit as many as we can as a family!
Counter points Hit every bike counter in one day Sunday April 26 Halifax NS Every bike everywhere all at once
Hey #BikeHFX as part of @cyclehalifax.ca's Roll into Spring campaign I'm hosting an event where I'm encouraging as many cyclists to roll over as many bike counters as you can in one day

Good summary of a very Halifax story and what happens when we try to make streets just a tad bit safer here.
Exactly! There were kids versions of this bike last year.
The smallest frame of this bike might be worth trying for your oldest though?!
Agreed. This group size surpassed ALL of our expectations!
Here's a Kona (good brand) kids mountain bike with a step-thru frame in your neck of the woods. It's a 24", but it would be worth trying for one or both of your kids. www.facebook.com/share/18DZ7j...
I always look for a familiar bike brand (e.g. Trek, Specialized, Norco, Giant/Liv, MEC, etc.) because those are typically lighter and higher quality than ones from Canadian Tire or Sport Chek (e.g. Movelo, Nakamura, Diamondback, etc).
I also LOVE a step-thru frame for new riders, personally.
Would a bike rack for your vehicle trunk help? You could borrow one from us to get the bikes from the shop to your home.
The (not mountain bike) kids bike options in Halifax really aren’t great. But I recently noticed that Sportwheels sells Norco and Evo brands, which both seem good!
This is, unfortunately common for nearly every mainstream brand of kids bike in North America, IME.
Decathlon used to have a kids hybrid bike called “Riverside”, but don’t seem to anymore. 😞
I was just about to say that I have only ever purchased second hand (Facebook marketplace) bikes for my kid, so I defer to you about new bikes.
I will post some other thoughts to complement yours soon though, once kid is asleep!
Adults and kids with and without bike helmets milling about in the sunshine in front of Halifax’s Oval building.
A couple of people fixing bikes in the sunshine next to Halifax’s Oval. A sign attached to the front of a cargo bike says “free bike tune ups”.
Many people on bikes and scooters on Halifax’s Oval with more people socializing in the background.
I think we had about 200 folks show up for the #KidicalMassHfx Spring Social! So lovely to see everyone come out of hibernation.
Thanks to Halifax Cycles for bringing bikes to test ride, @ecologyaction.bsky.social for tune ups, and to everyone who came out. What a great start to the season!
legend has it he's still out there diverting traffic to this very day....
I saw someone there holding the tiniest of babes, and in retrospect, probably this very one! Thank you for coming to memorialize a Raccone while in the throes of new motherhood. From my recollection, getting out of the house was hard for the first weeks and months.
As we left, one of them thanked us for coming!
A bunch of people and bikes outside at the Halifax oval
A small pylon dressed up as a raccoon with a yellow safety vest and bow in its hair
Huge turnout for the #KidicalMassHFX Spring Social at the oval today. Lots of humans and a few raccones. It was really nice getting to see everyone. I think it's safe to say bike season has started
Definitely talk to folks about it! And I'll keep it in mind in case I hear of anyone interested.
I've seen some beautiful Montreal traffic filters in @ohtheurbanity.bsky.social videos. It's so sad there's no political will for that here in Halifax.
ugh. I rolled past Cork (on Connolly) about 30min later with kid riding home from school.
If you run into any trouble with transport, let me know? We may have extra cargo space.
That’s such a great item! I first saw it at a KM ride years ago.
In the spirit of keeping it informal, I have no idea! 😆
I'll be bringing our old MEC tag-along bike, that my kid never liked. But I'm not sure what others are bringing.
