Very excited to share our preprint showing S-acylation (aka Palmitoylation) of TDP-43, VCP, SQSTM1, FUS & C9Orf72 in Huntington Disease (HD), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), & Multisystem Proteinopathy (MSP). This tour de force was led by @firyalrphd.bsky.social!

This artwork portrays a fictional person with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Framing their face is a network of neurons that highlights two motor neurons. One neuron extending from the mouth down to the hands symbolizes two of the major motor functions affected by ALS: bulbar and spinal. The second neuron forms from a single tear that represents the fear those with the disease endure. As this neuron extends to the hands, the connection is severed, symbolizing both the disconnect between the brain and muscles caused by neuron death and the determination of those affected not to be defined by their disease. The bound hands emphasize the physical constraints imposed by ALS while the distance between the hands conveys perseverance. Among the wildflowers shown is the blue cornflower, an emblematic symbol of ALS representing hope and resilience. See the review article by Cailyn Perry and Dale Martin for information on mechanistic links between ALS and Huntington's disease. Cover image: Cailyn Perry.

If you want to see our research promoted like it's a sports event go to the 1h13min mark: www.upliftingathletes.org/young-invest...

It was really cool to hear our work described this way.

All days should be WFH days according to Ruby. Although she wants more pets and less proofing of manuscripts & grading.

New science couple unlock. Today @drssfs.bsky.social & I had papers accepted! Shaun happens to also be a co-author on the paper from my lab. So, double congrats to her.

Also, my paper is my greatest academic albatross. So, I'm pleased to have this out!

Was quite the experience to visit our old postdoc department being on the other side of the lunch table during the career session & having trainees ask us about our career paths. Thanks again to Gareth Thomas for inviting us. @drssfs.bsky.social followed up with an excellent talk of course.

Vacation Ruby. It's been a ruff day (we got scooped on a big story), but Ruby always makes it better (for context, we had charcuterie for dinner & two of those pics are of her trying to go under the table).
