There is anger over all the terrible abuses of power, lying and venality, certainly. And sadness over all this country has lost — just willingly ceded.
But over and over again, the slightly reworked SUCCESSION line that comes to my mind with this administration is, “We are not serious people.”
I agree! So much of it holds up in remarkable fashion. And writing that chapter was a real joy -- unpacking the film with both Isabella Rossellini and Tina Rathborne, the latter of whom is much too hard on herself. She still largely sees the movie only for what it's not, alas.
