Zabu beat 'em up game and BizHawk's Lua API
Zabu beat 'em up game and BizHawk's Lua API YouTube video by Zabu Team

BizHawk is a multi-platform emulator that we've recently discovered. It has scripting capabilities that let you easily display additional information, which is very helpful for debugging. I wish we found out about it years ago.

GitHub - rumbleminze/castlevania-ii-snes: SNES port of Castlevania II Enhanced for the SNES SNES port of Castlevania II Enhanced for the SNES. Contribute to rumbleminze/castlevania-ii-snes development by creating an account on GitHub.

As always, all my NES to SNES ports are open source.
The last step after every port is cleaning it up, and backporting improvements to my template. There were over 750 builds to get this port out. And a LOT of things learned and improved along the way.

Here's an interview with Lloyd, aka Infidelity. It was really cool getting to talk to him about all of his projects, from Legend Of Link to his NES to SNES ports! Just search any app for "RetroRGB Infidelity", or head to the main post here: https://retrorgb.com/interview-with-infidelity.html

Aside from the controller support, a few games I tweaked the audio engine to improve some sound effects.

For LifeForce I updated the image in the options screen.

And finally, in Kid Icarus I finally fixed the bug where sprites weren't properly going behind BG tiles:

And now a fix for my latest game! I missed the knockback sound effect (actually all dcpm sfx, and am going to go back and see if CV2 uses any more). I've rectified the situation and updated both archive.org and mega.nz locations with the latest file. Music disabled in this clip to demonstrate.

I just realised that scrolling can be used to do temporal reprojection of interlaced lines to reduce the artefacts. Only in 2d space but still ๐Ÿ˜ฎ!

A big change I'm working on is allowing BOSSES to be shot with the PEARL POWER. I think it's the right thing to do, since it make the power-up feel more meaningful.

But each of the 8 unique bosses need to be re-coded a bit to support this. Should be worth it I hope!

Super fun game! It's got a great "pick up and play" style that is fun even for 5-10 minute bursts of play. Highly recommend.

Impressive. Would it be possible to add the cars? Is the source code for this beautiful project open source?

So it is possible to do 60fps 3d on the sega megadrive by using a very exotic indexing method to simulate 2 colors + alternating lines + fast DMA. Totally interlaced my brain ๐Ÿ™ƒ

@displacedgamers.bsky.social - you might appreciate this. This is the unmodified NES Castlevania II game, bankswitching 108 times in one frame. Maybe if you get a free weekend you can tell me why in the world it does this.

Jumping! I want the driving to feel smooth and arcadey like a Sega Rally. I was never a big fan of Wipeout's physics, but I love the graphics obviously :)

That's really cool. I haven't tested this approach on the Mega Drive yet, but I'm getting inspired to try it.
