That staging of Assassins sounds fascinating! I saw a more standard production in summer 2024 in San Jose. They had to postpone opening night because it was the day of the real presidential assassination attempt.

Paperback book: The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. 50th anniversary edition includes a new introduction by David Mitchell and a new afterword by Charlie Jane Anders.
#FridayReads The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. I read this 20+ years ago, but remembered very little of the story. Fascinating to reread now that I have a lot more familiarity with Le Guin's work.

anyone looking for a messy latino family mystery thriller tied together with a demonic thread should pick up my newest book--YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN NICER TO MY MOM
I finished knitting my sweater! (Just as the weather started getting hot a few weeks ago, naturally.) I'm really happy with how it turned out. Pattern and yarn details in the earlier thread.

A final wrap-up for my #TransRightsReadathon reading! Twenty-one books is not too shabby (even if it fell far short of my goal).
As in the past, I refuse to pick "favorites," so instead you get a list of superlatives for them all:

Here's what actually happened in Chiles v. Salazar—and why the coverage you're seeing serves the conservative legal movement more than it serves you.

I was like "whatever, AI, the Book of Mormon musical would like to disagree with you", but then I realized the AI isn't even answering the right question ("mock" vs "mocked")
I've actually really liked him in more dramatic/less comedic roles!
Seconding the recommendation for Jaroslav Kalfař's Spaceman of Bohemia! It was also made into a decent movie (Spaceman, starring Adam Sandler), but the script inevitably removed some of the novel's story.

Book cover of All the World Can Hold by Jung Yun. The title and author name are in large white text across a busy background. Upon closer inspection, the illustration is an upside down image of a tropical landscape, with a cruise ship out on the ocean.
#FridayReads All the World Can Hold by Jung Yun is the compelling story of passengers on a cruise ship right after 9/11. At first the characters feel conflicted about trying to enjoy themselves in such a terrible time, but then personal dramas keep them from enjoying themselves anyway.
Cover of Witch is Mine, with a whimsical but fairly realistic art style showing a man and a woman eyeing each other across a stack of books.
The cover of The Subtle Art of Folding Space, with an illustration showing hands holding chopsticks and reaching for layers of a multi-tiered steamer including both normal-looking dumplings/buns and mysterious shapes including planets.
Promo image for Panguan, in an illustrative art style, showing a man in traditional Chinese robes leading a man dressed in a modern dark t-shirt and pants through an ink-painting-style landscape

Two library books on a wooden deck: Stone Fruit by Lee Lai Trans/Rad/Fem by Talia Bhatt
Today's #TransRightsReadathon report is brought to you by taking pictures of books at weird angles to try to get around the glare on dark glossy covers!
I loved Stone Fruit! I have the author's new book, Cannon, out from the library now but haven't opened it yet.
