Arindam Roy explains automated CT segmentation and the 3D fossil reconstruction

Great talk by Arindam Roy at the #PalAss25 #conference about explainable AI pipeline for the automatic CT scan 3D reconstructions. First big steps on freeing paleontologist from labor intensive specimen reconstruction toward the work on higher level questions.

Science doesn’t exist in a moral vacuum. We can't excuse discrimination while lauding discoveries- however landmark they may be. If we want a better research culture, we must value integrity as much as intelligence—because real progress depends on both.

Watson’s record on eugenics, racism, misogyny, and anti-LGBTQ+ views is indefensible. His discovery reshaped biology, but his prejudices remind us how power and privilege have long influenced who are celebrated as a “geniuses”.

When I began my BSc-MSc in #Biotech, James Watson—of the Nobel-winning duo “Watson & Crick”—was impossible to avoid. His name is woven into the DNA of modern science. But the deeper you look, the harder it becomes to separate his scientific legacy from his worldview. #ScienceHistory #UKAcademia

Science doesn’t exist in a moral vacuum. We CAN and SHOULD recognise discovery WITHOUT excusing discrimination. True excellence isn’t just about intellectual achievement, but also about ethical conduct, inclusivity, and respect. [3/3]

Something fishy!
I had the privilege of creating a number of illustrations for this new exhibition under the expert guidance of @nitroshutter.bsky.social and his colleagues at Birmingham University. It runs from November 12th to February 28th. I’ll be visiting, and hope you will too!
