So very excited for the magnum opus of my #PhD to finally be out in @pnas.org. 🎉🎉 We demosntrate that mutualistic co-mimicking tropical butterflies not only converge in light microhabitat but, as a consequence, have also converged in visual system morphology! 1/n😀

Genealogical asymmetry under the isolation with migration model and a two-taxon test for gene flow Abstract. Methods for detecting gene flow between populations often rely on asymmetry in the average length of particular genealogical branches, with the A

My and Derek Setter's work on gene flow is now published in the latest issue of Genetics. We show that it is possible to detect past gene flow between two populations by summarising the asymmetry in pop-specific external branch lengths. 1/2

Hybrid adaptation is hampered by Haldane’s sieve - Nature Communications Hybrids have complex genomes that influence their adaptive potential. This study reveals that yeast hybrids adapt slower than their parental species in a new environment, primarily due to a reduced ra...

For her PhD work, Carla Bautista in our group discovered that yeast hybrids adapted slower to stressful conditions, and she figured out why. See what she found here. #evolution www.nature.com/articles/s41...

(thread) New butterfly Hox paper out
doi.org/10.7554/eLif...
I want to highlight the main part on Hox "insulation"

How do butterflies forewings differ from hindwings in patterns and shape? Rare spontaneous mutants show patches of forewing transformed into hindwing identities? How is that possible?

Does anyone have Gambusia affinis males and females in lab and the ability to send us morphometric pictures of 5 of each? We need some outgroup measurements for revisions of a paper. Would appreciate any leads! 🙏
