NYT offered me no quarter in the funniest way.

Calling this Falcons concept done for now. My take is not unfamiliar–embrace old, leave room for new.
- Redrew the old bird w/ some inspo from the current.
- Numbers are block, but w/ nods to the logo flare.
- Added a Gamecocks white helmet for my SC folks.

Going ahead and posting this before the tidal wave of #TitanUp takes later this week. No, wasn’t trying to guess the new look. Yes, just having fun. Crossbar in the A is the state and sword/ball has a drop of oil for you Easter eggheads. #conceptart
It's enraging how much this government wants to fuck over creatives and small businesses.
An image of a fire horse illustration, rendered digitally in a risograph style, created by an experienced graphic designer and illustrator specializing in branding and illustration.
Blarg. Got word my fire horse didn’t make the cut for an exhibition. Obviously bummed but still pleased with how it turned out.
#sketchbook: had wondered about a flaming sword? #titanup
#sketchbook: I know folks are playing with shields and swords. Winding down this idea; I’m sticking with the flaming thumbtack. I do like the bevel; not sure about powder blue shell, but thought it fun to consider. #TitanUp #wip (used Reve for the helmet)
#sketchbook: Looking at the beveled T instead of flat on the helmet; wondering about the red cage; tinkering with crossbar height on the T; and putting the redrawn numerals next to the helmet. #TitanUp #wip
#sketchbook: I actually like the "Grecian" numerals in the current #Titans uni set, but I do think there's some forced styling that led to some of the numerals looking awkward. Thought I'd mess with them some. #typography
#sketchbook: Popped it into @reve to "will it neon?" #TitanUp #conceptart
#sketchbook: Unpopular take, but an idea I couldn't shake last night. I think the Titans going with a roundel is...fine. It's a sharp look, and folks really dig the state iconography. But on the otoh you could have a flaming thumbtack. (I'd keep red as accent, no red tops/pants.)
For folks I've haven't said this to yet, happy new year. May you find yourself uplifting others, or empowered by kindness and support in 2026.
"He's not heavy, he's my brother." is a phrase I came back to as I imagined the story of a momentary pegasus alight in the night sky. I did 2 versions: one with the calendar dates in the tail feathers, and one without the dates.
#sketchbook: I didn't start this 2026 calendar #illustration until 12/29/2025 which is one of the most ADD things I've done in a while. '26 is the year of the fire horse, and a story about a phoenix giving life/flight to a fallen horse jumped into my mind.

#sketchbook: Messed with the stripes in my Montana St. Bobcats oncept during OT. Congrats Bobcat Nation. Wild game. Incredible 4th quarter to watch. #FCS
If you see this, qrp/post your bird art.

Early #wip sketch for a calendar illustration (Year of the Fire Horse, a Pegasus made of a phoenix resurrecting a horse’s bones.) Started 12/29; trying to wrap it up by 1/5.
#sketchbook: Presently debating iris and eyebrow shapes. #wip
#sketchbook: Decided to jump to vector on this Illinois State #conceptart. Performed a little rhinoplasty on the beak; I love the full-body alt that the school uses, so I'm going to work up a Runnin' Reggie that'll include sport-specific props like ISU used to use. #wip
#sketchbook: Continued messing with this sketch. Like some aspects, but not sure about the beak or shoulder. Do like using the thumbs-up for helmet spirit stickers.
#sketchbook: Getting current on the FCS semis I found myself curious about Illinois State's logo history, so I hopped into sports logos-dot-net; I didn't know they had a thumbs up guy! Messed with bringing back the thumb, keeping the current face, thought the implied S could be spiff.
#sketchbook: Calling this Montana State #conceptart done for now. It's been a fun one to sketch as both a logo and a lettering project. Good luck to the Cats tonight against SFA.
#sketchbook: 4th pass at this ambigram, vid includes the previous drafts so far. Playing with swords. Want to do florals? I dunno. #wip #lettering
#sketchbook: Revisiting a thought from last summer, some elaborate illustration riffing off the idea of rivals/rivalry. At the heart - an ambigram. I struggled with “RIVALRY” but I think I might have traction with “RIVALS”. #wip #lettering
BPR took me up on my offer for a donated shirt design. If you’re in the #WNC area, get yourself a tee to #ShopLocal and #SupportPublicRadio.

#sketchbook: Saw a post on my TL with the old Montana State Bobcats logo and instantly imagined lettering buried in the fur. While following mid-major games this weekend, I started sketching. Might take this to vector.
#sketchbook: Still think the Rams could pull off an OE logotype. Possibly work the horn into the R again.
#sketchbook: Hometown hockey team announced a rebrand a couple weeks ago. Seeing what they did, I got an idea and worked it up into what's in this clip. I've enjoyed sketching out script marks of late, so it was fun to get angular and thunderbolt-y. #personalproject
September 30th/October 1st
#sketchbook: Local hockey team now goes by T-Birds (mgmt change = name change). Liked the idea of twin birds making a somewhat T, so doodled this out for fun. No Easter eggs, just a couple of birds with hockey sticks.
#sketchbook: Kept planning to make a quick vid for this last Utah Mammoth logo concept, but #NHL preseason is here, and my backlog is yelling. Highlights: intro copper, tusks form a U, star for SLC on the away shoulder patch. All-in-all, a simpler brand package. #conceptart
