Look at these fun two vans from the 1970s/80s that I found while doing some picture research for a forthcoming BLAG feature. They're from the Olympia Brewing Company and their archives at Schmidt House in Tumwater, Washington.

Merrie England coffee shop : shop façades and unit lettering : Halifax Borough Market, West Yorkshire : March 2026. Halifax's magnificent and marvellous Borough Market is currently undergoing a multi-million pound refurbishment but on a recent visit the internal scaffolding is now down and work continues on various internal fixtures and fittings. This has included uncovering some older shop signs that add to the wonderfully eclectic mix of façades and nameboards. The small chain of "Merrie England" coffee shops, has been on the go for over 50 years and can be found in the locality of Halifax, Huddersfield and Brighouse. The bright red façade is a wonderful almost Holywood "Robin Hood" evocation of Merrie England with the stone infill and - that lettering! The splendid Victorian pile, and associated shopping arcades, was designed by local architects Joseph and John Leeming and opened in 1896. It helps complete what is one of Britain's most complete Victorian town centres.

Halifax's magnificent and marvellous Borough Market is currently undergoing a multi-million pound refurbishment but on a recent visit the internal scaffolding is now down and work continues on various internal fixtures and fittings. This has included uncovering some older shop signs that add to the wonderfully eclectic mix of façades and nameboards. The name of Redmans was well known to me during my Rochdale, Lancashire, childhood as they ran not only market stalls, several of which appear to have survived, as well as a chain of retail shops. Originally from the Burnley area there were in fact two Redman brothers; one who was vegetarian and who developed the shops, cafes across the North West from a maret stall and eventually even an hotel in Blackpool - the other appears to have not been a vegetarian and who became famous for shops and stalls selling bacon and sausages! The simple, bold red lettered facade stands above a busy unit with a queue of people waiting to be served. In the centre on the stone flag floor is a red warning hoarding. The splendid Victorian pile, and associated shopping arcades, was designed by local architects Joseph and John Leeming and opened in 1896. It helps complete what is one of Britain's most complete Victorian town centres.
Concorde coffee house : shop façades and unit lettering : Halifax Borough Market, West Yorkshire : March 2026. Halifax's magnificent and marvellous Borough Market is currently undergoing a multi-million pound refurbishment but on a recent visit the internal scaffolding is now down and work continues on various internal fixtures and fittings. This has included uncovering some older shop signs that add to the wonderfully eclectic mix of façades and nameboards. The Concorde coffee house displays the sloping nature of the site that is reflected in the façade and stepped interior. The Perspex and the nomenclature - coffee house, grill and griddle - hint at a '70s modern! The upper panels and signs are on white perspex with black lettering and "Concorde" in red. The lower panels are vertical grey/white tiles. The unit is busy with lunchtime customers sitting at tables and being served. The splendid Victorian pile, and associated shopping arcades, was designed by local architects Joseph and John Leeming and opened in 1896. It helps complete what is one of Britain's most complete Victorian town centres.

This is the unit known as Nettleton's and as well as some very '30s style stained glass swags has amazing cut relief lettering with a hint of modernism! To the left stand two lads leaning on the counter, one in shorts and to the tright a series of four open cupboard units, now without doors, one with hazard yellow cones stored. In front a red trolley with cardboard boxes and tubes. The splendid Victorian pile, and associated shopping arcades, was designed by local architects Joseph and John Leeming and opened in 1896. It helps complete what is one of Britain's most complete Victorian town centres.

A font sheet containing the entire alphabet, many accented letters, and a handful of punctuation. The letters are comic booky and hand written.
A little addicted to this lol, been working on fixing some goofs (there are still plenty of goofs to be fixed) and adding more characters/adjusting spacing and whatnot. Still far from perfect but I really like it and I’m enjoying the process <3 #lettering #typography #comics #wip

"Marie" is in a soft, elegant pastel script with a bit of control and proper. "Raella" is in green tones with a leaf-like flourish a bit laid back and lazy. "Stelline" is a bold, blue-to-purple with a star accent, and the T creates an overline over the rest of the letters. "Alani" is sophisticated, loyal, loopy orange cursive. "Wiska" is written in a dark red, blocky style with underlined accents.

"Aria" is light blue and gold gradient with wings on the first and last letters. "Alora" is thin, elegant pink cursive with heart-shaped loops. "Harley" is casual, spiky violet script with a hand-drawn star with some circling around, like Amara's.

Elle y exprime sa gratitude pour avoir reçu deux photos de ses perruches ondulées, et porte sa signature en bas de page. En haut au centre, on distingue les armoiries rouges de la monarchie britannique. Juste en dessous, en lettres capitales rouges, est inscrit « BUCKINGHAM PALACE ». À droite des armoiries, à l'encre noire, figure la mention « Avril 1986 ». Le texte principal de l'image est une lettre manuscrite à l'encre noire. L'écriture, élégante et cursive, est caractéristique d'une correspondance personnelle. Il s'agit d'un message personnel de gratitude.
