During COVID, rural Oregon resisted restrictions to contain the spread. Some explicitly said they didn’t need any restrictions because if anyone fell sick, they were going to be airlifted to the cities anyway. So the people of the cities could just work harder and deal with more cases.

Today I realized the periodic table has gained 9 elements since I minored in Chem and my daughter is majoring in it. Damn, do I feel old all the sudden.

Race: The Power of an Illusion

This series covers this very well.

There is a difference between saying race has no biological basis, and saying race does not exist. Race very much exist, but it is a social construct not a biological one.

American Escapee (@americanescapee) A day in life without inventions by women

Dudes. As a society we taught young women to walk with keys between their fingers in dark parking lots and to carry pepper spray in their purse.

So yes. I’m asking you to be responsible for the actions of other men. After all, that’s what you’ve asked of women for centuries.

It’s your turn.

None of that is because of changes in tax rates. If anything, those were tech advances established by largely government funded research back when tax rates were less indulgent toward corps.

So, these advances are something else public funded that corp profit from.

If that was true, then we’d see big improvements in prices and services compared to times when corporate taxes were higher. But we don’t.

I think the difference between knit and purl stitches does vary with different knitting techniques. For example, I do combination knitting, so my stitches are very similar in size to each other, but the overall effect tends to make it hard for me to match gauge on patterns as written.

Some states will go from record heat to a freeze — thanks to Alaska Nearly 100 million people across the United States can expect freezing temperatures into next week, with a chance for snow flurries for some.

Oh sure blame Alaska www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2026...

Chinook salmon found naturally hatching in Upper Klamath River for first time in a century The Klamath Tribes are celebrating evidence of Chinook salmon spawning in Klamath River tributary.

After big dams on the upper Klamath River in far northern CA were removed in 2024, Chinook (king) salmon migrated upstream for the first time in 100+ years--and now they have hatched.

That color scheme reminds me of northern lights. There was a hat posted recently with silhouettes of trees against a varied northern lights background.

One of these years, I need to stop working on complicated patterns (that I’m modifying in my head) while visiting with friends over drinks. Spent some time this afternoon noon getting back on track from where I stopped last night.

I object to the snow falling for the last few hours. I do not approve at all!

Yggdrasil afghan in a cotton blend (brand name forgotten, but it ended feeling like a soft sweatshirt!) and a spiral wedding gift blanket of my own design in Lion Scarfie. And a superwarm hat from old stash wool, again my own design #knitsky #knitting

I also recall some comments that particular photo was staged by all parties as part of the comedy tour PR? But I don’t have any source at this point.

I’ve done that with blankets. It is strange how it feels wrong to take so long for that last step. But it looks great, and cozy.

I teach high school science. Some of my students are taking a photography. They all lit up with big grins as I told them the astronauts on Artemis took a photography class so they’d do the best job possible of recording what they saw. These students like having something in common with astronauts!
