A student's path to publishing Alessa Carbo's AI-powered translation of sign language videos earned her first authorship at a major natural language processing conference.

Your reminder that notable authors aren't actually sending you email about your unpublished work. They don't have the time and most of them aren't editors anyway

I love me some libraries! The library was always my sanctuary, my safe space, my second home. Today, the library is sanctuary to the books I write, the stories I tell! Ever and always, my safe space. This is from Jumping Off Library Shelves, an anthology by Lee Bennett Hopkins. #nationallibraryweek

89 candles would have set off the sprinklers, so we settled for one — and one perfect slice of cake (with @bradtakei.bsky.social on ice cream duty). Thank you to every friend, fan, and fellow traveler who has made these 89 years such a joyous voyage.

I was honored to meet Dr. Rushton while a visitor to the Ethics Committee. Her work on moral distress and nursing ethics is invaluable.

Oh myyy! Happy 89th birthday to George Takei, Hikaru Sulu on Star Trek, The Animated Series, Voyager, Lower Decks & Very Short Treks, and in six Star Trek films. He's also a director, author, voiceover artist, and activist, and the subject of a great new documentary called Beam Me Up, Sulu.

If you've agreed to read a manuscript for the purposes of giving feedback and then feed it through ChatGPT to produce the feedback, you are the devil. Don't do that to your creative friends. It's not only unethical, it would put them in violation of no-AI clauses in contracts (including ours).

Today in Baltimore, We Proved This Fight Is Working DHS went to court to defend their ICE warehouse plan and walked away with a judge openly laughing at their argument.

"Over the past several months, our community has built a blueprint that other communities can use when federal agencies attempt to move detention infrastructure into their neighborhoods..."

England fans facing hugely inflated prices to get to New Jersey's MetLife Stadium for World Cup games The cost of getting the train from New York to the venue, where the Three Lions play Panama in their final group game, will be £111 - nearly 12 times the usual fare.

Dear fellow Brits, from this Brit-American:

Please don't come here. It's dangerous. You may be targeted, arrested and unlawfully detained - likely courtesy of ICE - without access to legal representation.

I've told my family to stay away.

Please boycott America. 🇬🇧💙

Ohio’s nursing homes are dumping patients at homeless shelters The scene was concerning enough to prompt the homeless shelter staff to call the fire department. A woman using a walker had shown up, incontinent and carrying “a large bag of medications.”

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.
