As the SAVE Act goes to debate in the Senate, this would be a good time to register to vote now if you aren't yet registered or say you moved or had a major life change. I can almost guarantee that regardless of the result, they will try to make it near impossible to register next. vote.gov
It's 7661, and my typo is literally from watching and catching the screen grab on votes while on a recumbent bike.
I'll pull together some talking points tomorrow.
"No book, no teacher, no curriculum, no class, no idea can be exactly right for everyone. Rather than fearing any point of view that differs from our own, we can choose to help our kids become resilient and respectful critical thinkers." @shannonhale.bsky.social
Books are a gentle form of storytelling that offer context to complex problems and help readers examine them at their own pace in thoughtful ways.

House Republicans have just introduced a bill that would result in a NATIONWIDE book ban. Oh, the bill is also specifically transphobic. Contact your House Rep and ask them to publicly oppose this legislation. A few more thoughts in the thread about this action. bookriot.com/hr7661-book-...
@angelapenadahle.bsky.social Hi! I was in MGForce. Sadly, I have no space now for a critique group, but I'm hoping much later in the year to connect with MG writers for beta reading exchanges. Let me know if that's of any interst.
Great explainer on the problem of ebook pricing for libraries.

Are you planning on donating banned books to a little free library? You can use these inserts to increase the impact your donation has on the community:
I know this is really weird to say but...there was some good news...out of Congress! Rebuking President Trump, Congress votes to maintain most of the federal funding for libraries, museums, & archives. From our friends @everylibrary.bsky.social This doesn't happen without your activism. Keep it up!
Are you an educator in a community that has been hit hard by book bans? We Need Diverse @weneeddiversebooks.bsky.social is establishing the Unbanned Book Network. Educators have until February 13 to apply. 20 sites will be selected to receive free books, author visits, & other resources
This is the last day to push on this & we're not halfway to the 200 story goal. If you know anyone in NM, make sure to send this their way
“Since Republican John Kasich became governor in 2011, Ohio has diverted billions from traditional public schools. Ranked fifth-best in the nation in K-12 education the year before Kasich took office, Ohio schools slid to 21st by 2023.”

such a great lesson and one i can relate to! my debut novel started off as a picture book, years later switched to middle grade, first set in the 90's (historical fiction *gasp*) then changed to *present day*
so hoping i can make it to your play!
I turned an idea I had for a YA novel into a poem, then I turned that poem into a one-act play that will be performed as part of Portland's Fertile Ground Festival on April 11, 2026.
My favorite writing lesson of this year:
If a story isn't working in one format, try it out in a different one.
Teachers & librarians! If you want to Zoom with an author for World Read Aloud Day, the list of volunteers is going out in my newsletter tomorrow morning - it's not too late to sign up!
