Glad to see this new opinion paper published. @alejandrorgijon.bsky.social and I write about the implications of the work from @delafuentelab.bsky.social on the use of deep-learning models to discover new antimicrobials in the archaeal proteome: from the ecology to the human health.
I am really happy to share that I have been awarded by the Spanish national network “Conexión Microbioma” to support a new collaboration between our lab (@gecko1990.bsky.social) with @josepramoneda.bsky.social at the CEAB-CSIC (@ceabcsic.bsky.social).
Coming back from the XIX REDEX celebrated in Huelva! It was a great time to present the research that we do in the lab from resistome in wastewater to natural microbial communities. We could also talk with colleagues and friends about future projects and even visit Rio Tinto!

Last week the lab participated at @same18-bcn.bsky.social, the Symposium of Aquatic Microbial Ecology in Barcelona. It was a great week full of scientific exchange! We presented our last results in different topics from anaerobic oxidation of methane to the resistome of aquatic habitats🦠🔬🌊

Yesterday we participated in the #europeanresearchersnight at the @mncn-csic.bsky.social Children learnt about microbial diversity and how to use antibiotics, and we learnt about how big their curiosity is. A win-win situation 🦠🔬

We observed how nitrification is a prevalent metabolism in winter dominated by Nitrososphaeria and nitrite oxidizing bacteria. In summer different heterotrophic bacteria express a variety of machineries to use different nitrogen sources. Check here the paper!

New paper alert! 🚨Finally, we publish the research on the nitrogen cycle of a unique Arctic dataset. We have over 13 metagenomes and 7 metatranscriptomes from March until July 2014 from the Dease Strait in the Canadian Arctic. They show how the microbial community changes from winter to summer.
