TVs in this airport bar are all sports talk, and even though I’m not really listening, the tone of the convo is so gross to me. Blowhard Know-It-All-ism on a loop. The type of talk that if overheard in real life, regardless of topic, would send me looking for alternate seating. So glad I’m a sissy.

Mine DID. I think it helps people write clearer sentences. I still love writing run on sentences. now I'm better at it. You don't have to live by it. If you (not specifically YOU) pare down your own nonsense it can help with finding your voice and differentiating it from those of your characters...

It could be that I'm on the phone with say an office employee about sumptin' and I use a big word (correctly) and they're like "you want what now?" That's partly on me. But thw vocabulary for some people, sheesh. Don't use big words with strangers you cold call, I guess. 3/3

... there's something about seeing an unfamiliar word in needlessly flowery language or run on sentences. The curious would look it up. You can expand your vocabulary for these more specific and accurate words in the moment, instead of writing "double plus ungood." 2/3

I encourage everyone to read Strunk & White's Elements of Style. Not to adhere to it with no exception. But just as a wakeup call about writing direct sentences and being clear in your prose. HOWEVER... 1/2

80s teen comedies don't have the best attitudes towards...almost all people and their relations. ('Raunchy humor' never ages well.) But this one is kind of stupidly surreal. And it has the Ramones.
