I need to learn to not always maximize my sound. If something feels missing in the mix the answer shouldn't always be to add another element. Sometimes all it needs is a bass boost with some swing.

I haven't been posting for a minute. Been in Japan for a few weeks and landed in Greece earlier today. Will be posting more music when I get back.
Someone on Tumblr said my sound is Breakcore downtempo and I kind of get where they are coming from but I really don’t think so. Breakcore has a lot going on with its percussion variation down tempo or not. They have much more simple mids and highs too which I don't think matches my sound either. 🤔
I asked what genre my music falls into the other day and it seems it doesn’t fall into any clear cut sub genre. So I’m just going to call it Dubstep.

I had time for a mid-week #dubjam. This time with chords from both MCO and Cizzle playing alongside each other. I spent quite a bit of time on the bassier side of the patch - maybe at the expense of the higher frequencies. It was fun, though!!

Thank you. 🙏 Dubstep without the wobble base or dubstep percussion with a techno beat is generally what I’ve been going for so it’s nice to know some of that is coming through.
Can someone tell me what genre my music falls into? I keep calling it EDM as a catch all but don’t really know the sub genre.

I need to get my own samples into this thing but I’m very impressed by the stock sounds coming out of the Elektron Digitakt 2.
Yeah I think I'm locked in now. Any new gear I get is getting new knobs too.
The Digitakt 2 came in yesterday from Long & Mcquade. I got it all set up and ready to use on the Synth Rise stand with orange DJTechTools chroma knobs. Should hear it from track 7 onwards.

I find some people have too much ego about their “music” online. This one guy tried to show me what a “professional” with FM syntheses can do and it sounded like 3 Decepticons trying to scissor. I was polite but yikes it was hard to listen to.
The new knobs are great. I got Orange ones for the Digitakt II when it arrives.

I’m making solid progress on my first album. Just about half way there. Or at least about half way there pre arrangment lol. Still feels like more progress than I expected at this point.
I tried making a Valentine’s Day themed track and ended up with something that would play in the background while giant robots fought. 😑

It was very interesting when I first got the Syntakt and Digitone II. I preferred the Syntakt for being immediate and simple to use. Where the Digitone II was extremely intimidating. But as I got use to both the Digitone II started to shine. Really started to see the depth of FM synthesis.
I do miss mine already. Just can’t validate $1500 CAD for 4 to 6 sounds my Digitone II could get pretty close to copying. And in a few cases sounding better. But would absolutely buy it again if I found it for a more reasonable price.
I have returned my Syntakt. Going to switch it out for the Digitakt II. I enjoyed it but it did too little in my setup. In the process of adopting the patterns to my Digitone II, it became clear how little it ended up adding to each track. I do miss the analog warmth it provided to the drum tracks.

Overbridge is cool and all but it comes off as very over-engineered. Like am I crazy for preferring to just save my sounds as WAV files and dragging them into Ableton Live?
