Some books endure! After 38 successful years, it seemed like "Scout" had earned a 2025 facelift. The story that's been delighting children for generations--and its 2017 sequel--is still available in all the usual places, including Amazon, Bookshop, B&N, etc. Links below.

Hmm. I've been off this platform for months. Wondering if it's worth it to try again. Decisions, decisions. πŸ€”πŸ€¨

I'm prejudiced, but I think so! 😍 He's also a ridiculously loveable doofus and a total failure as a watch dog. But hey... he's still mine!

A dark sable German Shepherd sits in a kitchen, holding in his mouth a copy of a book picturing dogs on the cover and a title, "Shepherds of our Hearts." He is looking up and to his left, as though waiting for a cue.

Voelker is getting ready to help me with signing some books. Since the story is about his family, it seems like more people want his Pawtograph than my signature. But... hey... whatever it takes, right? 🐾😎🐾

It's almost full lilac season in #Michigan, so Happy #Friday, y'all! I wish I could attach the scent to this post. 😎 πŸ™ƒ

A light-gray cat lies in the trough between a windowsill and the outer screen. She is flattened out on her side, with a flabby abdomen protruding onto the sill in a weird-looking lump. Her bottom ear is curled against the frame. Sun reflects on her coat and lights up the greenery outside the window.

This ( exhausted, out-of-shape) cat... looking like poorly-mixed pancake batter, complete with ear curl? Yeah, I'm pretty sure she's channeling every human in this house tonight. What a week.

I really miss access to private groups. Spoken like a true internet child of the 90s when email "lists" were mostly hosted on private servers.

Photo of an apple tree in full bloom, taken from underneath some branches up toward the blue sky. The buds are dark pink. The blooms are white with lighter pink edges. All leaves are as green as spring itself.

We have very happy pollinators these days. All the apple trees are in full bloom and it's quite a show--complete with a heavy buzzing soundtrack! Alas, I lack the photography skills to get a shot that really shows the overview.

Same! Glad you liked Mr. Wylie. He's still going strong at 7yrs.

I am so sorry. They are part of us, in some ways are the essential beat of our heart even more than our human companions--it's wrapped up with their complete dependence on us, but I can't put it into correct words.

Five years ago today. Here's #GSD Wylie, my very last service dog trainee... one of the real-life dogs behind the fictional story in my new book, "Shepherds of our Hearts." (www.amazon.com/Shepherds-Ou...). Shared with the owner's full approval--he loves for people to see his dog.

Two dogs are on a game show stage, standing on either side of a pedestal case that has a carrot squeaky toy with a glass lid over it. Off to the side, there's a digital sign with the number 6 displayed. The game show host is saying to the contestant, "When I lift the lid, you have SIX SECONDS to, well, you know what to do." There's a big sign on the stage with the game show's name: "Destroy That Toy!"

I might have to start posting a nightly #GermanShepherd photo until I succeed in finding all my people. This is "Thunder," who was born to two of my own dogs a long time ago. He was a drive fireball & worked with a SAR team in Georgia until age 11. This photo was from his early team training.

In my world, it is #MonDog. So here's young Ajo, who says he's ready for summer. I'm on his side. Time for the snow to go away and mud to dry up!

I'm still looking for #GermanShpeherd people! πŸ˜€

I don't believe they are ever truly "gone." They're too firmly entrenched in our hearts not to be present!
