(archive: 2009) Wind turbine placement must consider vibration effect on animals #ON When researching the impact the impacts of industrial wind turbines on migration of birds and bats, please consider the following: I live in close proximity to a wind farm on the north shore of Lake Erie, the closest turbine being 460 meters from my property of 2.4 acres. This wind farm is located in Clear Creek, Ontario and is comprised of 18 – 1.65 MW Vestas V82’s. It is an extension of the Erie Shores Wind Farm in Port Burwell Ontario, . . .

We've always used the term "wind turbine" and similarly avoid using the term "wind farm". The funny thing is that the industry itself often used "windmill" until recently; everyone knew what they were talking about and didn't have conniptions. Danish for wind turbine, by the way, is vindmølle.

(archive: 2014) Wind Farms: Health Effects #AUS Tonight I rise to speak on the relationship between a community and their doctors and how that relationship has been bastardised. But first I will give the chamber some background. In January 2012, researchers at the renowned Stanford School of Medicine published a report that found tobacco companies had conducted a carefully crafted, decades-long campaign to manipulate throat doctors. The aim was to calm concerns among an increasingly worried public that smoking might be bad for their health. The campaign . . .

Industrial Wind Energy Quote “By embracing industrial wind, for example, Vermont is replacing corporate-controlled fossil fuels with corporate-controlled renewables. We’re allowing those corporations to exploit and profit from our ridgelines, while ignoring the loss of valuable non-monetized benefits that intact mountains provide. In the end, Vermont’s climate change response hasn’t really been about “saving the environment,” no matter how ardently that sentiment is expressed in press releases and annual reports: it’s about maintaining, as long as possible, the unsustainable way of life that created the problem in the first place.” —Steven Gorelick, “Renegotiating the Future”

Wind Turbines and Infrasound: the Risks the Authorities Choose to Ignore Infrasonic pulsation is a very real and well-documented feature of wind turbines. Yet its impact on health, and potential ecological consequences, are all too often dismissed as "nothing to see here."

(archive: 2025) Red kite (Milvus milvus) collision risk is higher at wind turbines with larger rotors and lower clearance, evidenced by GPS tracking Abstract: Wind turbines are important for achieving renewable energy goals, but present a considerable threat to wildlife, especially birds and bats. This study reports 41 confirmed collisions of GPS-tracked Red Kites (Milvus milvus) with wind turbines across Europe (2017–2024). We compared environmental and turbine-specific factors during collisions and non-collision movements within 500 m of turbines. Collisions occurred year-round, with the highest mean number of collisions per day during spring and autumn migration. Rotor clearance and diameter were significant predictors of . . .

These enormous wind turbine projects would damage Wales – and all to supply the rest of the UK with energy #WLS Yes, the world is getting hotter, and yes, Britain should produce more renewable energy. But what should be the price of that principle? The Cambrian mountains in mid-Wales are the national park that never was. In the 1950s, when the official designations were declared, Wales was awarded Eryri (Snowdonia), the Pembrokeshire coast and the Brecon Beacons. The Cambrians were larger and grander than the Beacons, but less accessible and therefore less important. Three parks were thought enough for Wales. That . . .

Industrial Wind Energy Quote “Wind power is an idea that is appealing to the imagination. It sounds like a ‘free’ source of energy that would be non-polluting and stable in cost. I am an optimist, and I love technology. If I thought for one moment that windmills would be a source of low cost energy, I would be building them. The reality is quite the contrary — wind power is wasteful of human and natural resources.” —Fergus Smith, Vt.

(archive: 2010) Wind Turbine Syndrome Wind turbines majestically threshing the wind – what marvels of human engineering! To stand beneath one is breathtaking. To live near one can be hell on earth.
