(archive: 2013) Noise: Windfarms Abstract Windfarms consist of clusters of wind turbines, which, when placed in populated areas, are associated with intrusive and unwanted sound. A relatively new noise source, wind turbine noise has characteristics sufficiently different from other, more extensively studied, noise sources to suggest that preexisting noise standards are not appropriate. Though research into the human impacts of wind turbine noise has appeared only in the last decade and in small quantity, the data suggest that, for equivalent exposures, wind turbine noise . . .

Developer pulls out of part of offshore Shetland wind project that fishing industry opposed #SCT Wind farm developer Ocean Winds is handing back the lease option for the 500MW Arven South floating offshore wind farm near Shetland to Crown Estate Scotland, with strong opposition from the fishing industry cited as one reason for the pullout. Arven South is part of the larger Arven project off Shetland, and the 1.8GW Arven North project will continue. Ocean Winds said it was handing back the ScotWind lease because of a lack of a viable grid connection, transmission charging . . .

(archive: 2022) Simulating impacts of wind farms on local hydrometeorology ABSTRACT – Wind power is one of the fastest growing energy sources in the world, most of the growth being in large wind farms that are often located on agricultural land near residential communities. This study explores the possible impacts of such wind farms on local hydrometeorology using a mesoscale model equipped with a rotor parameterization based on data from a commercial wind turbine. Results show that wind farms significantly affect near-surface air temperature and humidity as well as surface sensible . . .

Dix mille éoliennes … pour à peine 10 % d’électricité : ce que révèlent les chiffres #FRA [Wind power works differently: its production depends entirely on the wind. Some days, wind turbines produce a lot. Other days they produce very little, if at all.] . .
