in the way a wave
returns to shore
in how the night
gives way
to day
in the beauty
of lilacs
in May
and so
it seems fair to say,
that while my mind
may drift away—
it will surely return,
time & time
again
to dreaming dreams
of you.

trying to remember me
before I knew you
it's no easy task
when it feels like
I've always known you
& the virgin green of spring
is taking my breath away
but all of me
is looking back
before winter's deadly touch
back when we were unafraid
& our dreams

as the rolling ocean
but I am listless
as seafoam,
tired from crashing

am I justified then
in hugging the shore?
