Love this - the light is wonderful!
A screenshot from the Presto website showing a forthcoming CD release of John McCabe's Cello Concerto and Symphonies 2 and 3. The label is Signum and the artists are Raphael Wallfisch, Kenneth Woods, and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. The advertised release date is 24 July 2026.
Ooooh... This is VERY exciting - dare I hope that we'll finally get a complete cycle of McCabe's symphonies?
I couldn't think of a better pair of hands to wield the conductor's baton in this repertoire either!

Yeah, my listening taste runs along the same lines, although I know the Brain recordings are regarded as classics so I am a tiny bit curious to hear them at some point. Nice gift, btw!
I love having all the leaves back on the trees in spring and summer but I'll still slightly miss all the weird and wonderful forms of the bare branches.
Pretty sure that counts as a great recording. I was just thinking of the period instrument versions I know - all two of them. 😄
It's a great disc, well worth checking out. We've also got the old, Decca recording with Halstead on horn and Hogwood conducting the AAM. I think overall I now prefer this - plus you get the lovely quintet too - but if you spot a cheap, used copy of the AAM recording, it's also good to have.

Detail of a tall garden wall. The triangular section of wall is made of brick and rises to a point near the top of the frame. It is capped by stone tiles. There is a circular window in the wall, decorated with a frame of fanned out bricks. The inner of the window reveals that the wall is several bricks thick, more than 30cm (one foot) in depth. Through the window the tops of tall trees in woodland can be seen, with blue sky and some light white cloud behind them. The sky above the wall contains the same mix.

There was something magnificent in the sky, this morning. Above the jumble of Georgian and Victorian roofs, aerials, and chimney pots, the air boiled with black ragged wings. Wheeling and diving; a rumbustious carnival of all that matters in life.

Morning, Jules... 😊 Wonderful pic - I always Iove to see the sky reflected in water. 🌤 Hope you have a great day too!
Happy anniversary to you both! 🥂
I don't like it. I wanted the hills in for scale and I wanted the old, metal fence in the picture too.

There is a young person recently started at work who prefers to be called ‘CJ’ and unfortunately my greeting of “Ahh CJ” is totally wasted on them.
Close up of a group of around forty whelks, hidden in their shells and crowded together on a rock at low tide. The rock is dark in colour and protruding from wet sand .

Oh, that's glorious! 😍
The image is a landscape of a marsh with mountains in the distance. The sky is deep blue, reflected in the water of the marsh. This is Heron Marsh, a wetland in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. The photo was taken from the Heron Marsh Trail, one of several interpretive nature trails at the Paul Smith’s College VIC – a nature center with over 25 miles of trails on a 3,000 acre property. Heron Marsh is one of the local spots I go to see ducks and ducklings. The marsh hosts Ring-necked Ducks, American Black Ducks, Common Mergansers, Wood Ducks, and Mallards.

I know - what a delight! He went straight to the top of the ideal dinner party guest list!
I'm sure you already know this but BBC4 have been releasing a new episode every Monday (I think) for a good while now - we tune in every week, partying like it's 1973.
The underside of the base of an upturned tree. The pattern of its once living root system can be seen fanning out through the earth that remains stuck to it. The trunk, lying on the ground and overgrown with moss, is on the right hand side and disappears off frame. Near the top of the exposed base, dandelions are growing and flowering. At the top of the base a small hawthorn continues to grow, its slender branches extending out into the air. These are covered in new bright green leaves. The dead tree is on grassland and there are more dandelions growing in front of it. The grassland extends back quite far and there are trees, some in new leaf, across the horizon. The sky above is cloudy and grey.
Life goes on...

Very happy with the artist opening event. Recommend to trip to Ashbourne to Hopton hall art gallery. Newly opened. Lovely building renovated from gentlemen’s outfitters. Watercolour artists exhibition until 27th May don’t miss it!
A male stonechat with a black head, white neck patch, and warm orange chest perches upright on a curved stem of bright yellow rapeseed flowers. It stands above a dense, softly blurred field of matching yellow blooms, creating a glowing golden backdrop. The bird faces slightly to the right, sharply in focus against the hazy sea of colour.
Good morning. Today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Petals&Perches any bird with flowers in capture. The alt is #WhatTheFlock any capture of three or more of the same bird. Good luck. #birds #photography #ECK
Thanks, Jules - yeah, it was lovely to be out in the sunshine. Lots of wildflowers around too... 🌼🐝🔆 Hope you've had a good day as well. 😊
Oh, that's nice to hear. I love to see it too. 😊
