β€œThe world’s largest rodent has held up traffic, chomped on gardens, and, on occasion, attacked small dogs.”

Since 2021, I've been replacing my lawn with native plants and garden beds. Still a work in progress, but it makes me happy to see how far it's come.

Landscape framing of a bluebird going in for a landing at a wooden birdhouse on a wooden post. Post is in right of frame, birdhouse at its center, bluebird just left of center. Its wings are down at a sharp angle and his head is forward, as the bird is in mid-air and is coming in for a landing. The blue on the bird is a paint color called ELECTRIC COBALT, which is a color I just made up. I like to imagine this bird's wings are somehow sharp, like razors, and that if summoned with the correct ritual, it could fly into and slice apart our foes. And these days, we seem to have many foes, don't we? Anyway. Bluebirds are cool. Photo by me, Chuck Wendig

Let's just assume the day is going to be the kind of day where we all need one (1) bird, so here is your bird; feel free to stop here throughout your day and regard this bird

Look at this page and tell me that ornamentals and invasives are better. Natives are so diverse and amazing! There's something for everyone. So many colors! I need a bigger yard.
