A native shrub featuring long brown woody stems sports bright green, multi-lobed leaves around several clusters of pink flowers that are just about to open. The largest cluster has two flowers that are open and look like eyes above a long face or beard. It says “Hi.”
The red-flowering currant I planted almost three years ago is blooming for the first time! I’m chuffed.

A single yellow and red fire wheel sits among dead Aster. In the top left corner is the blurry image of a little black dog named Pam.
This Firewheel was my final flower of last year. It hung on until the middle of December! A strong little dude that weathered two freezes!

Oh and new substack is live
Our yards may be the problem, and the reason our parks are overrun, but they could be solution too💚

Guess I need to figure out which hastags are used most often here 🤔 lol its a bit if a niche ask, but very much open to suggestions that are broader, just in general plants/"scenes" that might be identifiable via silhouette alone?

Been trying to "brush up" on my painting ( 🥁 ba dun tsss) - I am definitely not a painter/artist, but atleast "barely made it through an art course" level, its just been 10yrs ir so since pulling out the easel...lol

Image is a photograph of lightening bugs in a dark woodland area witht the text " how suburbia could actually be the firefly's best hope for survival and how you can join me in that fight. the gardenwildguy.substack.com"
New article is LIVE on Substack. I think if you ask anyone about fireflies, they agree " there used to be more" than there are now. Did you know, we aren't even tracking their decline?

On Stewardship clients , that is the next step in the plan. Overlapping the philosophy of mutual-aid with horticulture, to get native plants into plantable ground. Because all of the banks said "no", its time to kick the fundraising into highness. Stay tuned!

Winter’s winds are raging
And shake about the trees.
Spring flowers slumber,
Roots are sleeping under
Brown and crispy leaves.

Pretty jazzed to see a Familiar Bluet damselfly in my little garden in the middle of a little town. Plant it and they will come, they said. 💙

A monarch butterfly (male) drinks nectar from a bright purple eastern blazing star flower.
We've had way more monarchs this year than last year! Usually 3-4 at a time and basically all day. Haven't seen any caterpillars on the milkweed yet, though.
