I use Tsunami decoders with TCS keepalives. Most are Tsunami 2, but there's a few engines in my fleet still on Tsunami 1 chips.

Yep. All my locos have DCC, sound and keepalive modules in them.
It's got handrails on the side of the hood. But I'm planning to add some extra details, including front handrails.
I built it from a Proto 2000 SW9, using the chassis and hood. I've done a blog post about it here: www.tumblr.com/bvlcorr/7988....

Some photos from today's running. No. 17, my most recent build, took its first proper train up to Camp B and back. #modeltrains #modelrailroad #On30
The latest addition to my On30 fleet. I've always liked the EMD SW9, it's one of my favourite diesels. So I built this from a Proto 2000 SW9, the cab from an older project and a scratchbuilt footplate.
It's got DCC, sound and a keepalive on board.

Looks good - is it based on a particular prototype?
A shot looking down model train tracks. On the right is a caboose that's been converted into a shed, along with an abandoned water crane.
Shot of a model railroad layout, in 1/160 scale, with various trains on top of it.
Got some more scenery done on my N scale shelf #ModelRailroad. Went for a sort of 'edge of town' feel.
There's a speaker hidden in the warehouse, which provides background noise. I'm planning to rig up a G scale sound module for locomotive sound too.
An easy layout for people starting on modelling realistic model train landscapes... Interestingly, it is very similar to the train lines in Iceland...

A 1/160 scale model of an Alco S-4 diesel locomotive is pushing a brown boxcar. They are on a partially complete model railroad, with plywood still showing.
Photo from today's running, this time on the N scale Inglenook. S-4 no. 1528 spots a boxcar on the dock. #modeltrains
I've looked at it. Z is more expensive than N for what you get, and it's very limited. Most of the models I looked at were Japanese.
You might want to look at the Rokuhan 'shorty' series. They're short models that can go round 4.5cm radius curves. Not much scope for operation, but good for running.
Lay it piece-by-piece. I usually use flextrack with premade turnouts (points). So I'll print out the track plan at full size, trim it down and glue it to the baseboard. I'll use that to cut out the plywood. Once that's done, I'll build the bench and lay the track atop it.
That's very well done. Is it your work? What locomotive is that in the shed?

A small model train layout with several carriages and buildings on it.
Update on the N scale #modeltrain layout. It's now at a stage where I can run sessions on it, so I've put it in my home office
The signal enforces the Inglenook arrangement. For a train to shunt the rear track, it needs to request a clear track, which is handled by the #Arduino under the layout.
Update for the #modelrr feed.
#ModelRailroad update. The original feed for Model Trains will no longer be working, as BlueSkyFeeds.com is shutting down. As such, a new feed has been created at bsky.app/profile/did:... to replicate the old one. This uses a different service and so should stay online.
Photo of a model railroad layout.
My main layout is in my garage, which turns into an oven for about half the year. Which means I can't run trains then. So I'm working on a shelf layout in N scale, for when it's too hot.
Here's Inglenook Harbour. Started as an Inglenook shunting layout with a loco shed and it's grown.

Some more running photos. Number 1, a Class A Dunkirk, takes a maintenance-of-way train to Camp D. #ModelTrains
That looks fantastic. How much running time do you get before you have to wind it up again?
It's usually the finish, for me. For this reason, I'll make sure I buy models that have paint on them or paint them myself.
That model in your tweet looks like it was cast in coloured plastic and not painted. So it's got that 'plastic-ish' look, even though it's meant to be wood.
Thanks. That photo is a few years old, I've done the scenery around it since then.
When you say 'NES Gamepad', which hardware do you mean?
A photo of a Dunkirk class locomotive on a model railroad turntable. The track is ballasted, but there is no other scenery.

This was my first On30 loco build, from a HO diesel chassis and a Boulder Valley kit. It didn't run as well as I'd like, and so has spent a few years in a display cabinet.
I recently had another look at it. It's now running well with a keepalive installed and extra details.

Fair enough. I went for cardstock buildings on my USA themed N scale shelf layout, mainly for budget reasons.
Have you looked into cardstock models? I've found they're a bit less expensive than plastic.
Some of them are available as downloadable PDFs, that you can print yourself.
