At #ijf26, @bramvranken.bsky.social presented our recent research with @algorithmwatch.org , published by @investigate-europe.eu , revealing how the European Commission copied and pasted an amendment suggested by Microsoft and Digital Europe.

🤯 Despite no support from 9 EU countries, Council just voted to scrap safety rules & consumer labels for new & patented GMOs by Bayer etc. #NGTs
⛔ The EU Parl demands for labeling and against patents were not upheld.
📣 EP has final chance to repair, take action: corporateeurope.org/en/2026/04/t...
A high-up employee of chemical company says there's a tacit pact btwn industry & authorities in 🇩🇪 + 🇪🇺.
Meanwhile 000s of unknown chemicals are polluting Rhine & groundwater.
Given its dark lobby record, how can chemical industry have access to decision-makers?

Recently @correctiv.org have been publishing some important investigations into chemical pollution in Germany and the Netherlands.
We are very pleased to publish this translation of their article "The pact with the chemical industry".

This a particularly egregious and shocking example of corporate influence.
📝 As the Commission is currently working on an update of the Delegated Act, it should now redo its homework and delete the copy-pasted Microsoft amendment
The AI infrastructure boom is putting immense pressure on energy and water supplies, and threatens the EU’s climate goals.should
Big Tech has successfully lobbied the EU to keep information on individual data centres secret in a little noticed Delegated Act.

🚨BREAKING
Research with @algorithmwatch.org shows how the EU Commission has copy-pasted a Microsoft amendment that will keep information on data centres hidden.
The aim? In the face of growing resistance, to prevent NGOs from obtaining key information.
👏 @investigate-europe.eu for investigating

Another important article in the run up to the Chemicals Omnibus vote in the EP tomorrow.
We need tougher rules and better enforcement to stop the cosmetics industry putting harmful chemicals in everyday products.
Interesting article looking at some of the cometics industry's lobby tactics in the run up to the Chemicals Omnibus vote tomorrow. It's vital that MEPs support tougher, not deregulatory, rules about harmful substances in cosmetics.

👉 But farmers and breeders are strongly against patented crops. Also, today a survey in five EU countries shows that 80 percent of the citizens reject patents on living organisms such as plants or animals. www.no-patents-on-seeds.org/en/survey
👉 Lobby documents show that industry lobby groups Euroseeds and CropLife Europe, representing biotech multinationals like Bayer and Syngenta, tried to allay concerns about the impact of patented crops with very shallow, if not misleading arguments.
🙄 In 2024 the European Parliament demanded mandatory consumer labelling and did not allow patents for NGTs that would be deregulated. However, the EP rapporteur failed to uphold these key demands in the negotiations.
So what is going on ?
In May the EP may vote on a new law that would exempt GM food from new techniques from existing GMO safety rules. This will undermine food safety and consumers' right to choose, but also lead to further concentration in the seed sector through the patenting of food crops.

Come along!
During the meeting in Brussels, #PFAS frontline communities tried - in vain - to share firsthand with @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu how #foreverchemicals are impacting their lives.
A banner outside @ec.europa.eu read: “VDL meets poisoners, ignores us.”

They won’t stop knocking
[Op-ed] @lemonde.fr published an op-ed by #PFAS activists, led by @notreaffaireatous.bsky.social and supported by the @eeb.org calling for protection.

How has the “poison of the century” affected people’s lives?

#PFAS #ForeverChemicals
Citizens severely affected by #PFAS across #Europe joined us in Brussels last March for a meeting described by @lemonde.fr @stephanehorel.bsky.social as a “historic moment in the fight for a PFAS ban.”
The goal? To unite forces and push for an EU-wide PFAS ban.

Corporations are writing EU law.
We need to:
✊ defend ethical standards
✊ stop corporate capture
✊ drop all rigged consultation methods that allow corporate lobbyists to dominate
✊ a broad based campaign to defend and expand the protection of the public interest

‘Better Regulation’ was a formula for making laws and law-making more business friendly. But the current model takes the ‘simplification’ agenda to new levels: corporate involvement in decision-making (including the preparation of proposals) is unprecedented.
We need #rulestoprotect all of us!
While deregulation campaigns are nothing new to Brussels politics, this one stands out with its scope and methodology. Also, corporate lobbyists and other business representatives are invited in to take a major role, which threatens to set the direction for the EU even further into the future.
In the beginning, the Commission did deny it. As when Simplification Commissioner Dombrovskis said in Nov 24 it was “not about deregulation or diminishing our high standards”. Since then he has done little else than diminish standards in collusion with corporations, our report shows.
