*Walking on the tightrope: the shared roles of the bridging pericytes in the brain*

Congratulations Audrey Chagnot!! πŸ₯³

Bias aside, this feels like a really meaningful piece for the cerebrovascular field! 😊

Microglial cyclooxygenase-1 modulates cerebral capillary basal tone in vivo in mice - Nature Communications The role of myeloid cells in vascular regulation remains incompletely understood. Here, the authors show that microglia are the only myeloid cells that localize to capillaries and that they maintain b...

Showing how a precapillary sphincter dilates during high blood pressure

Showing how a precapillary sphincter dilates during high blood pressure

🐭🧠 #PrecapillarySphincters (PS) at the #arteriole–#capillary junction rapidly dilate ~30% in seconds during #SensoryStimulationβ€”regulating #capillary #BloodFlow dynamically. Here we investigated whether they protect downstream microvessels during abrupt #BloodPressure surges πŸ§ͺ🧡

Microglia modulate the cerebrovascular reactivity through ectonucleotidase CD39 - Nature Communications Microglia and border-associated macrophages play a role in regulating cerebral blood flow (CBF), but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Here, the authors show a role for microglial CD39 in the reg...

Typical development of synaptic and neuronal properties can proceed without microglia in the cortex and thalamus - Nature Neuroscience Microglia are proposed to have a role in brain development through synaptic engulfment and paracrine signaling. O’Keeffe et al. show that certain neurodevelopmental processes attributed to microglia c...

Mice lacking microglia (Csf1rβˆ†FIRE/βˆ†FIRE) have normal
-synapse number and maturation
-seizure susceptibility and hippocampal-prefrontal cortex coherence
-segregation of inputs into the lateral geniculate nucleus
-neuronal and astrocytic gene expression

We're not entirely sure but it may be related to marsupials living within a low oxygen environment in the pouch, or it might help for rapid post-natal development. Thanks for the interest!

Here's a fun one for #FluorescenceFriday. Did you know #marsupials have an entirely different CNS vascular anatomy to most animals? Arterioles and venules enter the brain and branch in unison, terminating at capillary loops. Check out this example from a #TasmanianDevil brain! (1/2)

Here we show how #microglia contact #pericytes and #endothelialcells in the #venule end of the #capillary bed. Note also how a #primarycilium of an #interneuron invaginates the microglia. But why? πŸ€” journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.... @gazz4science.bsky.social

some great starter packs for the #glia, #astrocyte, #oligodendrocyte, #microglia, #neuro researcher: gliasky, astrocytesky, microglia
But if you also like interactions between celltypes, please help this starter pack get started. Maybe someone can connect all of us in a feed?
