Great to see the Berkeley City Council considering a resolution opposing AB 942. We hope they pass it quickly, and side with consumers rather than PG&E. The resolution starts on p. 31 of the below link.

I love this.
OpenAI doesn't report a single number for its climate impacts - not anywhere, in any way, shape or form.
It sounds kind of obvious but the fact that a company with such incredible electricity hunger isn't disclosing basic information about its energy consumption and associated emissions is v bad..
How can we make heat pumps more popular?
Here is a funny video of someone playing the Harry Potter theme song… using the beeps from their washing machine and the dryer as a drum.
I wonder if any #heatpump dryers have a similar musical aptitude…

Now is a good time to support accurate information online!
Interwoven Sankey diagrams for energy and water. It shows how 75% of our freshwater goes to thermoelectric cooling demand.
Not enough people understand the impact of the water-energy nexus and the benefits to water conservation that will come from decarbonization.
When we switch to 100% renewables + storage and no longer need water to cool thermal combustion power plants we will reduce freshwater demand by 3/4! 3/4!

2. Yes they work. However if you get the $700 version not the $3K version you will have to empty the condensate water yourself. I found this annoying but it was better running a smelly old gas furnace in a rental that had no insulation.
Midea and Gradient have some over the window sill (more expensive) kinds; the “regular” ones are the size of a mini fridge and put hoses in your window like an “AC with heat.” More info on this and other home electrification tips here: kbierce.substack.com/p/how-to-per...

After Trump was elected, I started to wonder what could the grassroots, cities, and states do to move the needle on climate change without federal support. It turns out, a lot (gift link)
Yeah but somehow using a gas that can explode in our homes and streets is ok? We should be upgrading to thermal energy networks or heat pumps to reduce fossil fuel reliance and increase safety.
Thanks for covering this!
Few people know this: half of the world's energy use is for heat used in buildings and industry.
And almost all of it is from burning fossil fuels.
That's why we need to decarbonise heat if we want to stand a chance of meeting our climate targets.
Helpful new (draft) report from CPUC on transforming market for Room Heat Pumps (2-way window AC). Proposes product challenge similar to what @nyserda.bsky.social did but for CA climate needs. Great opp here to provide heating/cooling in multi-family homes at low cost. calmta.org/wp-content/u...
