Scarecrow and Mrs King was one of my fav shows when I was a kid! My niche one would be Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future (hated the name, loved the show).

I got one of those too, though it wasn't NPR. It was coherent and had a lot of details right, but it was still "off" enough to be fishy. It's so maddening.

Same. Mostly it's principle of humans over AI. But even on a technical level, machine translation tools miss nuance, idioms, and other things that go beyond the words on the page.

Exactly. Most autistic advocates I've seen are passionate about support for ALL. The issue is folks who see support, awareness, or acceptance as a zero-sum game. But it doesn't have to be.

What Dr. Abbott on 'The Pitt' and Artemis II have in common — and why people can’t get enough The rise of "competency porn" reflects a growing appetite for quiet, capable people who get the job done.

Accurate. Abbott is awesome. www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/ar...

The Problem with Draft2Digital’s New Policy
The Problem with Draft2Digital’s New Policy YouTube video by Wordslinger Podcast

Excellent perspective on the #d2d fees. It's not about the $12, it's the optics of punishing those least able to pay. A $12/book listing fee would be much more fair - and a bigger deterrent to the slop farmers pumping out dozens of 'books' each day. #writingcommunity www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gwsh...

I find all popups universally annoying. They get in the way of whatever I actually came there to do, require a click to dismiss, and almost guarantee that I'm not going to do whatever the popup is trying to "sell" me.

That too!

I don't buy the 'out of ideas' thing. The account fee alone might be enough to deter multi-account farmers. Won't know till they try. A one-time title fee or tax verification are other ideas. I'm all for combatting AI slop, but they had/have other options that are not as harmful to legit indies.

I'm sad to see D2D do this. It effectively prices newer/smaller authors out of the platform entirely. Only one of my books is wide currently, and it didn't even make $12 in royalties last year. Account setup fee is fair - even a modest title setup fee to discourage the slop farmers. $12/yr stinks.

An authoritarian gov't on Mars, dissidents rounded up, a state-run media suppressing a "Boston Massacre" analogue. My "90's chase thriller on Mars" was inspired by movies like The Net and Enemy of the State. I miss the days when its dystopia felt quaint and far-fetched. tinyurl.com/5ahv5833 #booksky

Oh, gotcha. I took bros more generically as peeps/guys/etc. 😀But yeah, some folks are weirdly aggressive about their preferred pub style.

Very true, but still a challenge to find them.

I think many novels would benefit from this, but it's hard when you're a small/indie author. James Patterson can get police access for his crime novels, and The Pitt has a whole crew of medical advisors. But if you don't have the clout to get attention, it it can come down to who you happen to know.

I don't wonder. Different people have different goals. To each their own! Both ways (self-pub or trad-pub) have different pros and cons, and each is valid in their own ways.

“Our purpose on the planet as humans is to find joy… To find joy in lifting each other up, by creating solutions instead of destroying.”

Love this message from the Artemis II crew – and grateful for their safe return home.

Why are more people being diagnosed autistic? Maybe we're just getting better at finding them? Broadening "autism spectrum disorder" to include five different conditions expands who is counted as autistic. Better diagnostic criteria and inclusivity mean fewer people fall through the cracks. More awareness and early screening mean we're better at recognizing autistic traits. And many adults are just now discovering they're autistic - meaning the past rates have always been wrong. We're still learning how much each factor influences diagnostic rates, but it's NO SURPRISE they're increasing. One thing we know: Vaccines do not cause autism.

Those claiming it's a great mystery why the number of autism diagnoses are going up are missing some obvious clues. #autismawareness #autism

Sure, same. The quote is about shaming/making fun. A polite correction is something else entirely.

Never make fun of someone if they mispronounce a word - Brent Logan "Never make fun of someone if they mispronounce a word. It means they learned it by reading." –Anonymous. I can relate. How about you?

I always liked this quote: "Never make fun of someone if they mispronounce a word. It means they learned it by reading." Having a big vocabulary from reading should be celebrated, not shamed. brentlogan.com/2016/03/neve...

100% agree. There are clearly people who need more support than others, and in different areas, but a 3-level system does a crap job of identifying what those needs actually are.
