-like I feel very seen with Makio's autism issues, but I don't exactly feel like a "fan" about it.

To me fandom culture happens when good art is combined with appeal and just enough crumbs and space for story interpretation. And it can be engineered - idol/multimedia IP is one big example.

I'd argue good art doesn't always lead to a fandom though, if we are talking about fanbase/fandom culture specifically

Like you won't exactly hear about something like Ikoku Nikki having a fanbase - you just hear people "liking" it; "it's one of the best shows rn" etc -

I've never kept up with this many shows at once before, god bless my attention span and patience
