Hime ponders what club she should pick, she she asks Kanoko about it- Kanoko struggles to answer for her. Hime debates the literature club, Kanoko worries bc they read books there and Hime doesn’t read 😂😂
Hime reveals everything to Kanoko, they have a very open and honest relationship with each other. Hime told Kanoko her fears (this is back when she first reunited with her childhood friend who knew her secret and had a falling out with), Kanoko reassures her that this is actually a good thing. Hime has nothing to hide so nothing to worry about! Hime is unsure, so Kanoko smiles and says it’s fine, besides, she’s just One person! Everyone still loves you, Hime-chan!” (Especially Kanoko herself, secretly🥹🥹)
They help each other both ways tho- Kanoko is PAINFULLY socially anxious. She has extreme anxiety and struggles to speak to anyone who’s not Hime. Hime does what she can to assist her🥹

I’ll do whatever I can to protect them all!” The girls work in a ‘Yuri concept cafe’, a bunch of lesbians serving pretty food in fake school uniforms and flirting openly with each other basically 😂😂works well! Because of the setting, they have ‘sister’ (senpai/kouhai) relationships with each other; eg- Hime is Mitsuki’s ‘little sister’ (they’re the same age, Mitsuki is just tall) Kanoko is Sumika’s ‘little sister’ ,, ect
Sumika pov; “my relationship with Kanoko-chan… It transcended being senpai and kouhai and it was too twisted to be a simple romance. We defend each other’s loves. We’ll go on keeping this strange relationship full of love and other emotions. That’s our sisterhood.”

Kanoko is on awkward terms with Hime after dating Sumika and still being Hime’s best friend/SP. there’s so much which Hime doesn’t know… and Kanoko feels bad about it. She’s worried they’re going to break apart with all of this change, Hime reassures her it won’t happen. “As long as we both want to be together, then everything will be fine. That’s what we’ve been doing all this time, isn’t it? It’s because you chased after me that I now understand the things that scare you” - because they properly talked! Because Kanoko didn’t run away and hide! “I don’t intend to stop pushing my way into your life, so don’t pull away from me either!”. Hime changed Kanoko’s life-! Pulled her out of the cold and the dark and let her bathe in the warm sun beside her! I think that’s truly wonderful!
Kanoko at one point met an older woman who took advantage of her innocence and manipulated her into playing her sadistic game(this woman also has her own story but for now imma paint her as the villain- sexual assault is NOT ok! The series makes it very clear! Even if “nothing physically happened”, it’s not nothing happened *at all*. Abuse is abuse.) “It’s true that nothing was done to you physically … but you *were* threatened! She made you say things that you didn’t want to say! Someone *hurt you* Kanoko-chan, I’d say that’s violence!” Kanoko is visibly alarmed but says nothing in response. “Of course how you feel about the matter is most important so I’m not going to pry any further but I want you to keep one thing in mind; you are a victim, Kanoko-chan and you can rely on us at any time if you ever need help” 🥹her boss. A very kind woman, luckily she found out what happened and responded accordingly.
“Thanks, Nene-san. I love you” “I told you to stop joking like that.” “… I’m sorry” - Love is a serious thing. Nene is a lesbian, she struggles with this. Sumika ends up a lesbian too but she’s still learning a lot. Love can’t be said whimfully. It has to have proper meaning and should be respectful. The series says this too.
Hime and Mitsuki talk about consent, what they are and aren’t ok with. While they’re not dating, they are still friends. Hime explains that she’s not good with being touched, that it makes her flustered and not that she hates it. She says she’s ok with holding hands and a hug now and then is fine too. She explains that bathing together is too much for her, as well as seeing each other naked. “I hoped that you’d pick up on all of this… but from now on I’ll say things more clearly. So let me do so right now, we promised we’d be honest about our feelings after all” - words which make Mitsuki smile brightly. “In that case, if you can speak from the heart like that, then I can be together with you with no worries!” Mitsuki says happily.

Hime ponders how she should respond when her co-worker and friend Mitsuki suddenly confesses to her. For further context; they were childhood friends who had a misunderstanding and for years hated/felt hurt by each other, they then patched things up and became closer than ever. Hime pushed Mitsuki to admit she likes her, however, Mitsuki’s “like” is different from Hime’s so now she(aroace) is in shock. Hime wonders if she could lie and ‘fake’ being a girlfriend to keep Mitsuki happen but the idea is incredibly overwhelming to her- being a girlfriend would mean becoming physical. Stuff like holding hands, kissing….-! Hime panics at the thought.
Kanoko asks Sumika to not lie to her. “That’s just your way of hating romance. I hate it too, please go out with me. Please be my girlfriend so I can stop hating romance!” , she then says with a bashful expression. There’s a deep story behind this too- Kanoko has been Hime’s friend since middle school, she secretly fell in love with her but via quiet observation, realised Hime’s sexuality and that she’ll probably *never* fall in love. She tested if Hime is actually a lesbian by writing a love letter signed anonymously aside from stating that she’s a girl, Hime’s response was the same. Meanwhile Sumika also had observed various romances and come to the conclusion that many of them are toxic and only end up hurting people, she hates that. She doesn’t want to see her friend’s torn apart so tries to curb Kanoko’s feelings the moment she realises they’re there. A lot happens and the two decide to try date each other as a result.
Sumika consults Nene, a lesbian senpai and co-worker, about Kanoko’s love life- “Hime is all Kanoko ever talks about! It’s all she’s ever worried about!” But she has no intention of confessing, she wants things to stay as they are. With Kanoko being Hime’s special person(SP). Sumika says that she sees no point in a fruitless love like that, that it makes her feel so muddled-! She knows it’ll only hurt Kanoko to continue this way…
Sumika ends up falling in love with Kanoko, the pair stumble along doing their best to keep an honest relationship with each other. “It’s fine! I … I don’t think your feelings are weird or dirty, Sumika-san” Kanoko insists. “But… I mean… I just want to be careful…” “I said it’s fine! When I said ‘please don’t suppress your love’, that sort of thing counts too. I don’t want you to hide your horny thoughts like that”
I wanna ramble about #watayuri and why I love it so much! It’s a slow-burn #yuri manga that goes *deep* and imo,is an extremely important read! However, you must keep an open mind! Much as a Sumika/Kanoko simp as I am, it's really good to finally have some Mitsuki focus again. You forget sometimes what an extremely fundamentally solid character she is. #Watayuri

I usually find Miman's panelling to be mostly just functional, so it stands out when I really like this little bit here of Yano being drawn in front of and outside of the panel to emphasize her disconnect from her peers #Watayuri
