A small coupe containing a golden cocktail.

For day 3 of the #AdventOfCocktails we have the Pantheon, which is two parts Scotch, one part Bénédictine, and one part lemon juice. This is really easy to riff on, with a swap from Scotch to gin proving very crowd-pleasing.

As written it leaves the drink in a lukewarm gradient from almost hot enough at the top, to almost (but not quite) chilled at the bottom. If I were to make it again I would either shoot for a fully warmed cocktail, or shake the whole drink and leave out the flame.

Apart from that, very tasty.

Starting off this year's #AdventOfCocktails with the Combustible Edison.

* 1 oz Campari
* 1 oz lemon juice
* 0.5 oz simple syrup
* 2 oz flaming Cognac

The recipe calls for chilling the glass and stirring the non-flaming ingredients with ice, but that feels like the worst way to do this.

SAME.

(Looking at the tracking every four hours has not actually helped me discover when it will arrive, since it's been sitting in the same state as me for two days now.)

Oh, interesting. I've just been clicking the one that looks closest and it eventually lets me in after a few failures. I assumed I was just fundamentally misunderstanding what aspect of the image was supposed to match, because it seemed clear that they wanted us to select a single image.

Long i or short, the latter being the same pronunciation as "primmer" and mainly used in the US for specific senses of the word.

Most of what I can immediately think of has been mentioned, except for _Undertow_ by Jordan L. Hawk. It's a side story in the Whyborne and Griffin series, focused on Whyborne's sister and her girlfriend.

Tortillas made with nixtamalized rye. Very interesting flavor (reminiscent of a pretzel in some ways) and decent texture.

The roasty hōjicha dominates so I can't pick out the notes in rooibos that I normally dislike. If the orange and ginger are doing anything it's subtle, but it's very enjoyable overall.

Day 1 is "Gleam's Glow" for Catherynne M. Valente's Fairyland series, which I have not read. This lightly sweetened blend contains rooibos, roasted green tea, ginger, and orange peel. Steeping in 500 ml of 185°F water for four and a half minutes produces a beautiful amber brew.

If a book contains a cocktail recipe I have to make it (sorry, I don't make the rules.)

@jordanlhawk.bsky.social's Lion's Tail is 2 oz. bourbon, 0.5 oz. lime juice, 0.5 oz. allspice dram, 1 tsp. simple syrup, and a dash of Angostura bitters. Quite tasty, as is what I've read of the book.

Steak au Malört et Poivre is kind of okay. It's not as good as making it with Cognac, but the fat cuts through the bitterness and the herbal notes complement the pepper.
2/10, would not make again.
