Not really an overstatement to say that the test of a free society is whether or not comedians can make fun of the country's leader on TV without repurcussions.
𧡠Next year my team have requested CPD on using tech in lessons. eg Geogebra/ Desmos/ AI.
QUESTION 1. Can you help me by pointing me in the direction of good resources that will help me plan sessions for them on these? Iβm not a technophobe but itβs not something I do enough either.
Calling all Maths teachers!
What are some of your all-time great tasks for secondary Maths?
Ones that could have their place in any curriculum, one that should be studied in PGCE courses, ones that started whole new genres of tasks...
... or just ones you really like.
(see some of mine below)
If you're with Edexcel and haven't done this, I'd encourage you to do so!
We're with AQA but it's certainly put a stop to any conversations in our department about switching boards!!
Even if they allow full marks for calculator, it still disproportionately penalises those making an error with that method! As you say how do they gain method marks?
I didn't get any email either, I only saw the exemplar document via Tom that references P1 and 2C. Not great communication from AQA!
ππ
I didn't even get that email as Course Leader! I got that info second hand from @drbennison.bsky.social !
But we definitely interpreted that message the same way as you! What's next.... Bringing back slide rules and trig tables for A Level?
Exactly that! In recent years the reduction of marks for each normal question from ~6marks to 2marks suggested to me that the calculators were being encouraged as the modern way of working. I would have expected official guidance to be released if their stance on that was changing.
Yes! 3 hours after seeing the paper and I'm still raging about it!
First time in 6 years of teaching Core Maths that I HAVEN'T taught with the tables and they pull this!
AQA will be getting my strongly worded email tomorrow. Furious doesn't cover it!
Yes, I sure am! Thanks! π
Double booked today: Maths Inspiration Show β¨ followed by the UKMT Senior Kangaroo! π¦
So proud of our department, always trying to offer plenty of enrichment for our KS5 students! #MathsToday #ALevelMaths
I haven't been very active recently, but I'm all about A Level Maths and Core Maths!ππ»ββοΈ
Sad to be missing #MathsConf36 but currently packing for my honeymoon to Japan! ππ― Looking forward to getting the lowdown from @drbennison on Monday!
Iβm looking for suggestions for offline self-mark homework for A Level mathsβ¦
Anyone have any?
Reposts appreciated.
π
This is my plan too! I was originally hoping to read it over the summer... but then, distractions! π I'm hoping reading it in line with our SOW throughout the year will be more impactful anyway! π€

I'm at a SFC - we run a mentor scheme where strong Y12/13 students volunteer to mentor struggling peers 1-1. It's not a "delivered" session though. The mentors give up a free period each week, but the onus is on the mentee to bring something they're struggling with. Some students get a lot from it!
