Iโm looking forward to some well-deserved rest, then watch this space as I move on to my next chapter in the wild and whacky industry that I love so much ๐

A big thank you to everyone in the team, across OWIC, @rukcymru.bsky.social, @renewableni.bsky.social bleNI, EnergyPulse for supporting me over the years. I've been to so many events and met so many faces, I can barely begin to mention everyone, but my time in the big smoke must come to an end ๐
Big news, everyone, Iโm moving on from my role at @renewableuk.bsky.social!
Itโs been a whirlwind over the past 4 years, travelling across the UK, from lifting the ban on onshore wind in England, reaching a major milestone of 100k followers on LinkedIn, and even learning a bit of Welsh ๐ช

UK Wind Power has rallied to 19.9GW this morning. With 0.9GW of Solar we are burning 2.3GW of Gas as well as exporting 0.3GW. Hydro is 0.3GW. Nuclear is 3.9GW and the awful Biomass 1GW The price of wholesale electricity over the past 24 hours was ยฃ66 per MWh. #renewables
If you want to understand the future of energy (and therefore of many sectors in society) you need to read this article.
You can see why the fossil fuel industry is fighting so hard and so dirty (literally and metaphorically) against this trend.

Tony Blair report claims #renewables too expensive.
But onshore #wind ยฃ72/MWh, #solar ยฃ65MWh - whereas ยฃ147/MWh for #gas.
Offshore #wind ยฃ91/MWh 40% cheaper than new gas. #Nuclear more than ยฃ133/MWh and would take many more years to build.

A great day for cheap power enthusiasts as 5GW of solar comes in at ยฃ65/MWh and 1.3GW of onshore wind comes in at ยฃ72.24/MWh. Both prices are in ยฃ2024 and are below the wholesale price, meaning that these projects will cut costs.
