As I've argued elsewhere, union endorsements can have an impact, but they are largely symbolic unless paired with a massive organized effort to sign up members to get involved and vote.
The result is a striking reminder that endorsements don’t always translate into votes. Given that organizing and mobilizing are the the lifeblood of the union movement, this result is a disaster and tells us a lot about the institutional weakness of unions inside the #NDP
The unions that endorsed Rob Ashton for #NDP leader collectively represent 659,200 members. Ashton received 4,193 votes. That means fewer than 0.7% of members from endorsing unions joined the party and voted for him.

I agree with @stephross.bsky.social & @stufts.bsky.social here. Airing significant internal divisions so publicly is a risky political gambit for CUPW's president.

The #NFL is laying the groundwork for hiring scab labour to replace officials if the league can't come to terms on a new collective agreement with the NFL Referees Association.
A similar move in 2012 was an unmitigated disaster.

The challenge for both the NDP and the labour movement is [...] putting forward an alternative vision and understanding of the economy that directly addresses their material interests in ways that unite workers through shared class interests.
