So wonderful and fabulous photography
Down by the river, in sunny Cambridgeshire 🥰
Dumb animals?
In 2024 the Lime Finishes Group in collaboration with Historic Environment Scotland ran a symposium called Lime Finishes: What's the Point? This Historic England LFG event was WtPTwo 2026, Lime Finishes in a Changing Climate. WtPThree has yet to have a theme.
This is roughcast painted to appear as fictive rubble. It is bonkers because we are so wedded to a rubbly aesthetic while the evidence directs us to walls once covered with a lime coat. Bonkers also because this is National Park and World Heritage Site.
I love the black paint 👌
My tks to all our speakers at our joint LFG and HE symposium WtPTwo 2026. V proud of all our younger speakers who overcame their nerves, delivering evidence, results and conclusions in a limited time. These images by Rose Lord sum up the bonkers place we are in – UNESCO WHS & NP!!! WtP3 2027.
Can’t believe I did that - got out of my comfort zone to talk to 150+ people about the archaeological perspective on surface finishes.
What an epic day. Thank you to @limefinishes.bsky.social for all your incredible work #archaeology
the absence of evidence, is not, evidence of absence… 🙌🏼
Oooooh, any lime finishes P?
👌
All the time 🤦
In York for What’s the Point Two 2026 and have been to admire my friend, the late Rory Young’s work at the Minster. We worked together in Fife in the nineties and I’m struck by how much I miss him.
Hammered again and it’s only a Tuesday
I liked this obviously.
A poster for my talk at the Boswell Book Festival on 10 May, which features a photo of me and the cover of my book The Road to Mons Graupius

Who needs the Oscars when you can take the train to Kyiv? 🇺🇦
Thanks for choosing Kyiv, Sean Penn. Welcome back.
Looking forward to Tom Graham's LFG talk 'Discovering and Reinstating Lime Finishes on a C19th Frome House.’ I'm keen to see and hear about Tom's project because if there are two things that strike a chord with me, it is basing lime work on evidence and for home owners to have a go themselves.
They don’t give a damn. I asked for their environmental impact survey and they refused.
Our Claire gets wed in Dunkeld tomorrow during storm Dave. I hope she has her duffel coat and big pants. All our love ❤️
It’s so bleak. It was full of Red Squirrel, Goldcrests, Pine Marten etc
They’re obsessed by specs
😱
Scones are too important for trivialisation
The crucial thing here is that there is plenty of honey and apple, no wish washy vagueness 👍
Citizen science 👌
So in two weeks they’ve nicked 11 pairs of glasses and this is my revenge on a truly miserable day yesterday. I love that they are trying to shelter under a root while I’m trail building. Of course I relented when got home.
