My father taught us we are not powerless. Even in moments of crisis, we have the capacity to connect, to heal, and to move forward.
Your body has been keeping score.

Dad called out the “Triple Evils” of racism, poverty, and violence.
Our work is to confront them not with hate, but with a radical commitment to nonviolence.

Years later, DNA evidence and a confession from another man cleared them, but not before their lives were profoundly altered. Today, Yusef Salaam has transformed that harm into action as a New York City Council Member—proof that truth, accountability, and organizing for justice still matter.
On this day in 1989, five Black and Latino teenagers were wrongfully arrested in the Central Park Five case, a miscarriage of justice driven by coerced confessions, racial bias, and a presumption of guilt that shaped public perception long before the facts were known.
For our crew, this has been a thirteen-year journey, beginning together in Kindergarten, growing side by side ever since.
Today we celebrate their achievement — and the love that made it possible.

This moment is heavy. Voting rights are being stripped. Voices are being silenced.
But history reminds us: the greatest work is often done in the darkness, away from the spotlights. When we organize, we rise stronger than before.
Creating a culture of giving back means lifting up the impact of service and the real outcomes it produces in communities. When we spotlight what volunteerism achieves, we inspire more people to take part and strengthen that cycle of care, connection, and collective progress. #RealizeTheDream

Family….Always
I say this often because it must be said: my daughter’s generation has fewer rights now than when they were born.
My father spoke of staying awake during times of change. Today, we are witnessing a generation that refuses to sleep. They see clearly. They act boldly. They will shape what comes next.
A welcome glimpse of good news out of Wisconsin last week. Chris Taylor’s victory strengthens the pro-democracy majority on the state’s Supreme Court, solidifying its balance heading into the next election.
#OTD 1967, Dad delivered The Other America speech at Stanford, calling out the nation’s failure to hear the voices of those living in poverty and facing racial injustice. “A riot is the language of the unheard,” a reminder that true change begins when we listen and act.
And so I stand in quiet gratitude—for the journey that brought me back, for the family that stands with me, and for the sacred responsibility of carrying the light forward.
The work continues.
That day, I felt the presence of those who poured into us, and the gentle call of those who will one day look back and find their own reflection in what we leave behind.
To be named a 2026 inductee to the Board of Sponsors along with Arndrea and Yolanda Renee… and to know that our portraits will now rest there, held in the walls of that sacred place—it stirred something beyond words.
Last week, I returned once again to Morehouse, to the very chapel where I graduated. Of course I have been back countless times over the years. But this time felt different. It felt like something deeper.

On this day in 1962, Cpl. Roman Ducksworth Jr., a Black serviceman returning home to visit his wife and newborn on emergency leave, was murdered by a police officer in Mississippi. Stopped on a Trailways bus over a false accusation, he never got to meet his newborn daughter.
Service is how we turn hope into action. Every act of volunteering, every bit of time given, helps build a more united country. Track your hours and see the impact you’re making at realizethedream.org. #RealizeTheDream
In a defining moment for our democracy, we are choosing unity over division. If you missed last week’s announcement, check out our policy agenda to break down systemic barriers and strengthen Black and Brown voices, economic mobility, and civic engagement:
Remembering Rev. Bruce Klunder, who was killed #OTD in 1964 while standing against segregated schools in Cleveland. He laid his body in protest, believing justice was worth the risk. His sacrifice calls us to carry that courage forward.
