In Tales of Eight boats can dodge. One of the pros of creating a non realistic game.
Still need to add some invincibility frames and the first skill is ready :)
What other non boat skills could my boats have ?

Tempted to take part in this one 🏴
I also want to play the original Lemmings again :)
Will you be able to avoid the pizza cutter ships (name tbd) ?
Is clearly telegraphed danger zones good or is it giving away too much ?

This changes everything ! Thanks for the tip :)
Thanks :)
This week I added a new enemy to the game. A mortar ship whose cannonballs shoot fireballs to dodge.
Thanks @binbun3d.bsky.social for the fireball effects :). Still have to modify them to match the style of the game.

A not this but this meme where the option of using an ugly photomontage to make fun of DLSS 5 is preferable to using an AI generated image.
Seing a lot of them on game dev subreddits at the moment😩
Looking good tho :)
If this is the main character then I feel an outline allows it to be better seen above npcs and landscape.
Do you know what are the advantages of using it over the Godot particle system ? Better performance ? More customization ?
A screenshot from the tales of eight game showing a boat with a minimap on the top right, canon icons on the bottom left and right, health displayed at the bottom center and resources shown in the top right.
Reworked the sailing UI this week, now with 100% more minimap resources and health display :)
Trying to keep it minimal so I will probably condense the different ressources in the future.
What more information should be displayed ?

Ah yes that's a good one. Have to see if stealth can be implemented at one point.
A screenshot showing a boat on map with three region to choose from. Three shields are represented, the first one with swords, the second one with scrolls and the third one with a skull with tentacles.
Started working on the world map where players will be able to choose where to go and what faction to interact with.
What kind of missions would you like to do on the high seas ?

There is beauty in good topology :)
A screenshot of the Tales Of Eight game showing two fantasy steamboats firing fire on another ship.
For Tales of Eight I added a new enemy to the game this week, a steam ship that spits fire.
It will be the main ship of a new faction called "The Fellowship of the Powder", a more industrial themed faction.

Thanks :) I will have to check out overboard for reference. I never heard of it.
As for the hatch that's a good idea, a fun little reference.
A screenshot of the Tales of Eight pirate game showing a boat looking at an sand island with trees, corals and a dock all in a stylised style.
I have some progress to show on the island decorations. I used some models from @kenney.nl Pirate Kit which I retextured.
The end goal would be for players to explore the island. What is something unexpected you would like to find there?

I love animation player in combination with the movie maker mode in #godot.
Spent the day making this boss présentation animation for the players when they first encounter it.
Now to code the actual encounter 🫣
What is your favorite boss mechanic in action rogue-likes ?

Thanks, the game has been on my to-play list for a while. Maybe listening to the soundtrack will get me to play it at last :)
Looking for some music recommandations to put in the background while I code,
What are in your opinion the most underrated indie game soundtracks ?

Are gifs allowed for #screenshotsaturday ? 🤔
I've been working on a dynamic world for Tales of Eight where the factions can expand, fight and trade with each other.
If two factions are fighting, will you take sides or let them be while trading with both ?
#godotengine #indiedev
Will have to give some of these a try :)
For gamedev I mainly use the integrated editor in Godot so cant really be used elsewhere.
For more general C/C++ i use Notepad++ or Nvim depending on how much I want to suffer ;-)
For Python I used Sublimetext but that was before LLM's generalisation so not sure where it stands today.
Sketch of a shark in front of a bord with a ship where the player can buy items to store on their ship. Two wanted posters are located on the right.
UI of the store for Tales of Eight showing a cartoon shark in front of a shop interface where players can buy objects and store them on their boat.
The UI for the shop is progressing from sketch to game implementation. There are still some decoration parts missing but I am quite happy with the shark (even if I spent more time than I should have on the model).
What should I name him ?

No and I am happy the code editor I use doesn't have it so I don't accidentally turn it on or something.
Drawing of a shark in front of a panel showing a boat where a player can put objects in the boat. On the right there are two wanted posters. Mock-up of a potential UI for the game Tales of Eight.
For #screenshotsaturday i have a mock-up of what the store UI could look like.
The wanted poster on the right will change as your piracy renown increases, it will also help you find other pirates to fight.
What other animals can I draw next ?

Thanks :), not being an artist, comments like this make me more confident in the art direction :)
A screenshot of a game showing two pirate boats navigating around an island with a painted style.
Back to working on my pirate game and I've been playing around with different texture filters to give it a more painted look. Quite happy with the result.
What look do you like in games ?

Now I wonder if the conversion rate to purchases changes depending on the OS.
