This Isn't Trading. It's Theft from Your Retirement. Someone keeps making perfectly-timed bets right before the President speaks. The victims are your pension, your 401(k), and the country I took an oath to defend.

Fifteen minutes before the President announced he was pausing strikes on Iran, somebody moved $500 million in oil futures. Somebody knew. Somebody told them. Or somebody is them.

Kia ora John,
I want to update you on the sharp rise in jet fuel prices following the conflict in the Middle East and how we’re managing it at Air New Zealand.

Jet fuel prices have increased significantly. Six weeks ago, fuel was around US$85-90 a barrel and today it’s above US$200. For an airline our size, using around 22,000 barrels a day, that effectively doubles our fuel bill from roughly NZ$4 million a day to NZ$8.5 million a day.

We can’t absorb that level of cost increase without taking action. But we can control how we respond and prepare for the months ahead.

Our priority is to keep New Zealand connected while protecting the reliability of our network. We won’t pass through the full cost increase because that would put flying out of reach. Instead, we’re making targeted fare increases and adjusting the schedule, including combining lower-demand services where possible.

This week we’ve confirmed a further round of schedule changes for May and June. Around 1% of customers will be affected, and most will still travel on the same day. That said, if you are one of those impacted we are acutely aware of the inconvenience this causes, and please be assured our teams will be doing everything possible to minimise your disruption. If your booking changes, we will contact you directly before the end of the week with your options. If the new flight doesn’t suit you, you can choose a refund or credit. If you don’t hear from us or your travel agent, your flight is operating as planned.

We know price increases and schedule changes matter, particularly at a time when many households are already feeling pressured. We may have to make some more impactful decisions as time goes on, but what I want to assure you is that any changes will be deliberate, carefully considered steps to manage costs while minimising disruption for our customers.

This is a volatile environment, and like everyone, we hope to see greater stability soon. As your national airline, we are bein…

Just had a letter from @airnewzealand.bsky.social CEO - saying that their fuel bill is doubling. He failed to mention that they have 83% of their fuel hedged to June and 46% hedged for Jul-Dec. Any increase significantly over 5.6% is profit taking and nothing else. simpleflying.com/air-new-zeal...

I have a father and mother in law in Iran. I have a sister in law. A niece. She's 14. She likes silly pink headbands and purses and dresses, just like kids her age all over the world. There are 93 million people like her in Iran. People who do all the normal mundane life things as the rest of us.

You should be able to get a replacement glass panel for about a third of the cost of a complete hob… I took the hood vents out to clean them 3 hours before 12 coming for dinner….and smashed the hob - though it still worked. Just put a silicon mat over the glass and carried on!

Remember guys, you can’t afford a gas rig, or a coal mine, or a nuclear power station, but you can afford to put some cheap solar panels on your roof.

That’s why the fossil fuel industry has spent billions trying to kill renewable energy.

The dealer needs to keep you addicted.

velocity is a measure of uncertainty - it seems perfectly reasonable within the confines of the thought experiment that companies could simultaneously reduce headcount and increase investment in AI - and lead to nominal GDP increasing and velocity reducing as folks stopped spending.

Winston Peters has been in politics for 312 years, changes position more than most people change their undies and yet his arguments are still presented as though he means them in good faith. A sane media would have mocked him out of politics years ago
