Strong conversations at the AMR Conference in Basel hosted by the BEAM Alliance.

Great to finally meet John Rex, reconnect with Deepali Patel and colleagues from the AMR Action Fund, and hear Dame Sally Davies synthesize insights from across the sessions in her closing remarks.

The language of antimicrobial resistance Despite its importance, the term ‘AMR’ fails to resonate with the public, limiting its power to drive behaviour change. New research is revealing how language itself may be one of the biggest barriers...

The way we talk about antimicrobial resistance #AMR could be one of the biggest barriers to action. 💊

If we want to preserve the effectiveness of antimicrobials, we must first ensure people understand what’s at stake. amr-action.au/amr-language/

Scientists spent 10 years cracking superbug problem. It took Google's 'co-scientist' a lot less. Scientists took 10 years to figure out how one type of superbug gains its ability to infect diverse bacterial species. When prompted, Google's new AI "co-scientist" gave them the answer in two days.

The application of #AI in research and development certainly opens great new possibilities. Including in the #AMR space. This is more than just skimming existing answers and paraphrasing them. Watch this space.

Aaron Smethurst on LinkedIn: #maleally #internationalwomensday #genderequality #womeninleadership As we celebrate International Women's Day, I find myself reflecting on the extraordinary women who have influenced my journey and the importance of men…

For #IWD International Women's Day I shared a few thoughts on #maleallyship on LinkedIn. I am only starting to be active in this space, but I think it's quite important for all genders. I hope you do too! www.linkedin.com/posts/aarons...

So, we should have free speech and “community notes” when we have concerns but we should sue when clients choose to move to another platform? I’m no tech entrepreneur but I’d think honey is more compelling than vinegar.

In my vision, the platforms could use reliability criteria not just to provide users with guidance on sources but could also build AI fact checker bots that develop real time ratings of posts based on LLMs from reliable sources. It would never be perfect for breaking news but it could help.

The biggest question now is how will this corporation eventually choose to fund this growth? I see an opportunity to lure away advertisers if that’s the model they choose. But is there another way?

I too would like to see a platform with centralized reliability ratings akin to what @newsguard.bsky.social has developed but in the meantime we can make lists that create feeds of only reliable sources. I’ve done that and shared for others. Focus on healthcare but could go broader.
