John Gurdon was a true giant:
- founder of cell reprogramming;
- founder of molecular embryology;
- unabashed advocate for basic research;
- advisor to numerous successful trainees/PIs;
- gentle human that touched so many.
In dark times with science under attack, let his vision be a guiding light.

🖥️ STIM, a new tool developed at Janelia & @mdc-berlin.bsky.social‬, aligns sections of irregularly spaced 2D spatial transcriptomics data & renders them as images to reconstruct 3D volumes of gene expression, allowing researchers to see how all genes are expressed & organized in 3D tissue. 🧬

Mapping effective microRNA pairing beyond the seed using abasic modifications Abstract. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression by base-pairing to complementary sites in messenger RNAs (mRNAs). The p

Excited to share our latest work, published today in Nucleic Acids Research:

"Mapping effective microRNA pairing beyond the seed using abasic modifications" - led by a former PhD student, now graduate of the lab, Dr David Kosek, in collaboration with Katja Petzold.

Ectoderm barcoding reveals neural and cochlear compartmentalization Placodes and the neural crest are defining features of vertebrates. In this study, we investigate their lineages in mice using in utero approaches. We demonstrated that nanoinjection at embryonic day ...

Hot off the press! 🧬🔬

We developed in utero nano-injection to label & trace the mouse neural plate and otic placode using next generation single cell lineage tracing. We couple progenitors to mature cell types in the CNS & resolve the lineages of cells in the hearing organ:
